Librarian: Contract Instructor-College Credit


Overview

Posting number: AC01148. Location: San Diego Miramar Campus. This is a 12-month faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Librarian duties, with potential evening, weekend, or off-campus assignments based on department needs during library hours.


Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Dean of Academic Services, the Librarian will collaboratively engage in planning, organization, coordination, and implementation of library services and programs. Responsibilities include cataloging/technical services/systems/electronic resource management; directing paraprofessional staff; reference services; instruction; development and assessment of student learning outcomes and library services; liaison relationships with faculty for instruction and collection development/management; teaching credit courses; collection development and management and knowledge of open educational resources (OER); library promotion or outreach; committee work; program review; planning; accreditation; and other duties to provide quality library services and resources. The successful candidate will also handle configuration, maintenance, enhancement, training, and troubleshooting of the library services platform and related systems, and coordinate cataloging and systems work.

Specific duties include collaboration with department colleagues and university partners to support library operations and user services.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

* Master’s in library science, library and information science, OR
* the equivalent

Desired Qualifications

* Knowledge of and experience with library services platforms (e.g., Ex Libris), including public and staff modules.
* Experience with original and copy cataloging (RDA, LCSH, Library of Congress Classification).
* Experience maintaining a bibliographic database, including authority control.
* Experience managing library systems, software, and technology, including platforms and electronic resources; ability to analyze statistics from vendor platforms.
* Experience performing library reference services (in-person and virtual).
* Experience with library resources and services such as catalogs, e-books, online databases, OER, LibGuides, etc.
* Knowledge of library instruction methods and trends; collection development and faculty liaison work.
* Knowledge of AI applications and their impact in educational libraries; adaptability to change.
* Ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals, librarians, and faculty; participate in professional development; work effectively in a culturally diverse environment; willingness to take on new responsibilities; serve on faculty committees.
* Strong oral and written communication skills.

Equivalency

If you do not possess the exact degrees listed, or anticipate obtaining the degree prior to teaching, complete an Equivalency Form and attach it during the application process. Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a NACES member or ACEI evaluator, with evaluation submitted online.

Working Conditions

Mostly office-based with library reference desk duties; some walking. Travel or off-site work may be required as needed.


Employment Details

Posting Number: AC01148

Period: 12 months; 1.0 FTE; exempt from overtime per applicable collective bargaining agreement. Base salary ranges from Class 1, Step C to Class 6, Step C depending on education and experience.

Benefits include medical, dental, vision, sick leave, and development opportunities. The district may adjust salaries for service shorter than a full academic year as per Educational Code provisions. Travel stipend may be provided for interview travel beyond 200 miles one-way.
