Position Summary
The Assistant Program Coordinator for the E2SI trip in Panama (18 days, June 30 – July 17, 2025) is responsible for fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for student participants. The Assistant Program Coordinator will serve as a mentor, resource, and leader, ensuring that students adhere to program policies, remain engaged in cultural and academic experiences, and maintain respectful and appropriate behavior during the trip. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to support students in a foreign environment and assist with logistics and safety protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Supervise and support student residents throughout the duration of the program in Panama.
2. Serve as a liaison between students, program staff, and faculty to address concerns and provide guidance.
3. Ensure compliance with program policies, university regulations, and local laws.
4. Assist in the coordination of daily activities, excursions, and cultural immersion experiences.
5. Provide mentorship and peer support to students, promoting inclusivity and engagement.
6. Address and mediate conflicts among residents, promoting a positive group dynamic.
7. Monitor student well-being, providing emotional support and referring students to appropriate resources as needed.
8. Assist with logistical planning, including transportation, housing, and event coordination.
9. Respond to emergencies and assist in implementing safety procedures and crisis management protocols.
10. Report incidents and concerns to program leadership promptly and accurately.
11. Foster an atmosphere of respect, responsibility, and cultural sensitivity among participants.
Minimum Qualifications
Formal Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Work Experience: Experience in higher education, customer service, and working with a variety of campus populations.
Work Skills: Excellent leadership, collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills; strong organizational and administrative management skills; demonstrated responsibility, maturity, and professionalism; ability to collaborate with support staff; previous experience in student leadership, residence life, or mentorship roles preferred; ability to adapt to new environments and navigate cultural differences; problem-solving skills; ability to work collaboratively with faculty; familiarity with international travel and cultural exchange programs is a plus.
Equipment Knowledge: Strong computer skills and ability to learn new technologies.
Other: Genuinely cares about students, their well-being, and their success, along with their families.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree; two years' experience in residence hall management.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
This job involves international travel to and from Panama. Conditions may vary depending on weather and residential circumstances.
