We are hiring an Observability Engineering Manager to lead the development of distributed tracing or service mesh products within our Observability group. Engineering managers at Canonical are coders capable of reviewing and leading architecture and code. They are good judges of character, set expectations, and hold colleagues accountable. We aim to build an observability stack that is easy to deploy and operate on Kubernetes, integrating metrics, logging, telemetry, alerting, tracing, and profiling tools. Our implementation of Kubernetes operators is resilient, scalable, and provides deep insights with a polished user experience, aiming to improve open-source observability standards. As an Engineering Manager, your main responsibilities include running an effective team, developing colleagues, reviewing code, and leading architecture. You will foster team growth, ensure high performance, and collaborate on strategy and execution with other managers and stakeholders. Fluency in relevant programming languages, architecture, and components is required, along with a commitment to quality and fair management. Location: This role can be home-based in the EMEA or Americas regions.
