Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Project Manager to support the delivery of data centre projects in the Milan region. The role will involve managing mission‐critical infrastructure works, with a strong focus on MEP systems, vendor coordination, programme control, and client interface.
The Project Manager will work closely with internal engineering teams, external contractors, and end clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget, in line with global data centre delivery standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage end‐to‐end delivery of data centre projects, from mobilisation through commissioning and handover
Act as the primary interface with the client, ensuring clear communication, reporting, and change management
Coordinate MEP contractors and vendors (power, cooling, UPS, switchgear, BMS, fire detection/suppression)
Manage project schedules, budgets, risks, and change control
Ensure compliance with HSEQ requirements and local regulations
Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of mission‐critical systems
Support procurement activities and supplier performance management
Produce and maintain project documentation, progress reports, and financial forecasts
Collaborate with design, engineering, and commissioning teams to resolve technical issues
Required Experience & Skills
Proven experience as a Project Manager on data centre or mission‐critical projects
Strong background in MEP systems, particularly power and cooling infrastructure
Experience managing vendors such as UPS, switchgear, generators, HVAC, and controls
Solid understanding of data centre delivery methodologies, construction sequencing, and commissioning processes
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders in fast‐paced project environments
Strong commercial and contractual awareness
Excellent organisational, communication, and reporting skills
Comfortable working on site xivgfpx in live or high‐availability environments
Qualifications
Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
Formal Project Management qualification (PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent – desirable)
H&S certification suitable for construction and mission‐critical environments
Fluent in English (Italian strongly preferred)
Location & Working Arrangement
Based in Milan, with regular site presence required
Some flexibility for hybrid working, depending on project phase
