Job Description: Welder
Location: Milan, IL
Compensation: $23-$25 p/h + per diem + hotel provided
Journeyman Welder Responsibilities
1. Selects type and size of pipe or other related materials and equipment according to specifications.
2. Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal, machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
3. May be required to use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes.
4. Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together in various body positions.
5. Bolts, clamps, and welds metal components of products such as piping systems, plates, pipes, tubes, or structural shapes, using arc and arc gas welding equipment. May weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions and tack weld assemblies.
6. Connects cables from welding units to obtain specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse as per procedures or supervisor instructions.
7. Prepares electrodes and operates welding equipment to produce desired welds.
8. Guides electrodes or guns along weld lines, maintaining correct arc length, speed, and movement for proper fusion and bead formation.
9. May manually apply filler rods, clean or degrease weld joints, and perform repairs or finishing activities.
10. Inspects welds for quality and adherence to specifications.
11. Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools, and supplies.
12. Assists in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation.
13. Performs minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment.
14. Assists other mechanics as needed.
15. Follows safety protocols, including respiratory protection if required.
16. Performs certified welding procedures and adheres to all safety and project rules.

5. Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
6. Compare and recognize differences in lines, figures, and objects.
Physical Demands
Regularly talk and hear; frequently sit, use hands, handle objects, reach; occasionally stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl. Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with relevant experience. Knowledge of industry practices and procedures. Works under supervision, following instructions and guidelines. Usually reports to a supervisor or manager.
