Overview
The Italian Institute of Artificial Intelligence for Industry (AI4I) is seeking a skilled and impact-driven GenAI Engineer to design, deploy, and operate large language model (LLM)–based solutions in real industrial and enterprise production environments. You will work on high-impact use cases such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, intelligent agents, and task-specific copilots, integrating foundation models with enterprise data, APIs, and operational systems. The role sits at the intersection of GenAI engineering, software systems, and industrial AI deployment.
Location: AI4I, OGR – Turin, Italy
Hybrid work: Flexible arrangements may be negotiated
Deadline: February 28, 2026, 11:59 PM CET
About The Role
As a GenAI Engineer at AI4I, you will take ownership of end-to-end GenAI systems, from solution design and evaluation to production deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to deliver production-grade GenAI services.
You Will Work Closely With

AI4I's Deployment and Data Science teams, delivering production-grade GenAI services
R&D teams, to industrialize promising GenAI use cases emerging from applied research
Industrial and institutional partners, ensuring solutions meet operational, safety, and compliance requirements

This role is strongly execution-oriented, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and measurable value delivery in production environments.
Key Responsibilities

Build RAG pipelines, agents, and copilots integrating LLMs with enterprise data, APIs, and existing systems.
Select/configure foundation models and define prompting + tool-use strategies for business workflows.
Deploy and operate GenAI services in production (CI/CD, automated testing, API serving, monitoring/observability, versioning/rollback).
Define evaluation and implement safety/guardrails for privacy and compliance.
Optimize inference and (when needed) fine-tune models to meet latency/cost/quality targets.
Collaborate with R&D teams to identify and industrialize promising new use cases emerging from applied research.

Required Qualifications

Hands-on experience in delivering AI/data products in production (enterprise or industrial), including 1–2 years on LLM/GenAI use cases (RAG, copilots, agents).
Strong Python skills and solid experience with modern LLM tooling (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, or equivalents) and API integration patterns.
Proven ability to design and iterate on RAG systems: document preparation, chunking/indexing, embeddings, retrieval strategy (and reranking when needed), with measurable improvements.
Solid data foundations: SQL and experience with data warehouses; familiarity with vector databases (e.g., pgvector, Pinecone, Milvus, Chroma) and data quality/lineage basics.
Experience optimizing solution quality and efficiency: prompt strategies, retrieval tuning, and fine-tuning/optimization when it materially improves outcomes, with attention to latency/cost.
Production-grade delivery: Docker + Git, reproducible environments, and hands-on exposure to CI/CD and automated testing for reliable releases.
Hands-on experience with at least one hyperscaler stack (Azure/AWS/GCP) for GenAI workloads (e.g., Azure OpenAI / Bedrock / Vertex AI), including deployment, monitoring/observability, and cost control.
Ability to communicate LLM capabilities/limits/risks to stakeholders and translate business needs into maintainable solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
Experience designing and deploying RAG systems, LLM-based agents, or task-specific copilots (e.g. for support, engineering, operations, documentation).
Background in manufacturing, automation, or critical infrastructure, or in data-intensive enterprise contexts, ideally with exposure to complex technical and regulatory environments.
Experience with model and prompt evaluation, guardrails, safety tooling, and/or AI compliance (e.g. AI Act, internal AI governance).

Additional Strengths (from Candidate Profile)

Project and team leadership experience with ownership of delivery.
Broad software engineering background (e.g. Java/JavaScript, APIs and microservices, relational and NoSQL databases, big data and cloud-based systems).
Experience building and operating mission-critical or high-availability services.
Proficiency in Italian and English.

Key Performance Metrics

Solution & Use Case Impact: Number and quality of LLM/GenAI solutions deployed and measurable value created (e.g. time savings, productivity uplift, quality of answers, user satisfaction).
Operational Execution: Reliable, timely delivery of end-to-end LLM projects from scoping and prototyping to deployment and iteration.
Adoption & Scale: Level of integration, usage, and longevity of LLM applications within client or internal operations.
Quality, Safety & Compliance: Robustness, reliability, safety, and compliance of deployed LLM systems, including effective monitoring and continuous improvement.
Team Collaboration & Capability Building: Effective cross-team engagement and contribution to the evolution of the Institute's LLM/GenAI capabilities (best practices, templates, internal tools, mentoring).

What We Offer

A team: You will be surrounded by a super-smart and creative team of researchers and engineers who are as passionate about AI and robotics as you are. We thrive on collaboration and big ideas. We will support you to advance your career!
Wide impact: We build and we publish. You will have the chance to co-author papers for top-tier conferences like NeurIPS, ICML, CoRL, and R:SS. You will also collaborate on national and EU industrial and research projects, your work will be seen.
An office at the epicenter of tech: Our home base is at OGR Torino, the city's coolest tech and innovation hub. You are not just getting a desk; you are getting a front-row seat to Italy's tech scene, with endless events, meetups, and creative people right outside your door.
The essentials covered: Of course, we offer a competitive salary and provide travel support for conferences and events. Moreover, you will have access to high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure.

Salary range: €60,000 – €80,000 gross per year, including bonus, depending on experience.
How To Apply
Submit your application exclusively through the online form by February 28, 2026, 11:59 PM CET:

Cover letter (max. 1 page) describing how your profile fits this specific position.
CV with publications and open-source projects portfolio (e.g. GitHub)
