Sanctions Risk Specialist, Denied Party Screening
Amazon Japan seeks an experienced investigator to be part of a centralized Denied Party Screening team (DPS). The team ensures an effective compliance program is in place, validating that each business unit has identified their regulatory responsibilities and established processes, controls, and self‑testing to identify compliance gaps. The Risk Specialist focuses on production goals, working closely with Operations Management. Individual problem‑solving and analytical skills are used to authenticate and determine denied sanctions matches on complex transactions and accounts. Decisions are made independently with a high degree of accuracy following standard operating procedures (SOPs). The role also performs holistic account review and investigations, assists with audits and inquiries, provides guidance to investigators and operations staff, and helps the business comply with OFAC and other relevant laws and regulations.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Investigate denied sanctions potential matches from Amazon’s screening solution to support various business units.
- Participate in ongoing customer due diligence.
- Identify gaps and training opportunities in escalations through the operations and compliance workflows.
- Onboard, train and mentor new hires.
- Reconcile operational metrics with DPS leadership.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Fluency in Japanese.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends.
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience in suspicious activity monitoring, fraud investigations or denied sanctions screening within a large company or financial services environment.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills with a can‑do attitude and willingness to roll up sleeves.
- Ability to make timely decisions with incomplete or ambiguous information.
- Accountability for performance metrics, ensuring increasing productivity and accuracy against benchmarks.
- Ability to identify, communicate, and champion process improvement opportunities for internal and external customers.
- Sound professional judgment and high integrity when handling confidential information.
- Maintain confidentiality throughout the investigation process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in Chinese.
- Experience working with geographically distributed teams in a complex international organization.
- CAMs certification.
- Working knowledge of U.S. denied sanctions laws and regulations.
