Who We Are
We are looking for a Data Architect responsible for defining and driving the data architecture strategy for the modernisation of a legacy application, migrating from Oracle to AWS-native data platforms. This includes redesigning the data model for PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases, leading data migration activities, and ensuring data integrity, performance, scalability, and security throughout the transformation.
The role works closely with solution architects, application developers, cloud engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure the modernised data landscape aligns with functional and non-functional requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing
Define the target data architecture for AWS, including PostgreSQL and NoSQL (e.g., DynamoDB, MongoDB, or similar) components
Analyse the existing Oracle relational data model and identify refactoring opportunities for cloud-native and NoSQL paradigms
Design logical and physical data models for PostgreSQL and NoSQL, optimised for performance, scalability, and access patterns
Lead and govern the data migration strategy, including schema conversion, data transformation, validation, and reconciliation
Select and define migration tools and approaches (e.g., AWS DMS, custom ETL pipelines)
Define data standards, naming conventions, and data governance principles
Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements, including encryption, access control, and auditability
Collaborate with development teams to support application refactoring related to data access and persistence
Support performance tuning, query optimisation, and capacity planning in the target environment
Provide guidance on data lifecycle management, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
Document data architecture decisions, migration plans, and target-state designs
What You’ll Bring Along
Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical discipline
Certification required: CBDA, CFLBA, CPRE, PBA or equivalent
Strong experience as a Data Architect in application modernisation or cloud migration projects
Deep expertise in relational databases, particularly Oracle and PostgreSQL
Hands‑on experience designing and implementing NoSQL data models
Strong understanding of data modelling patterns (relational vs NoSQL, CQRS, event‑driven data, etc.)
Experience with AWS data services, such as RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, S3, Glue, DMS
Proven experience leading large‑scale data migrations with minimal downtime
Solid knowledge of SQL, data transformation, and data quality management
Familiarity with cloud security and IAM concepts related to data platforms
Strong communication skills and ability to translate business requirements into data designs
Nice to have – experience modernising monolithic applications into cloud‑native or microservices architectures
Knowledge of event streaming or data integration platforms (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis)
Experience with DevOps/Data‑Ops practices and CI/CD for database changes
AWS certification (e.g., Solutions Architect or Data Analytics)
