This is a pivotal leadership role, instrumental in bringing the physical vision of the hotel to life while ensuring long-term operational excellence.The RoleAs Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing all technical, maintenance, and engineering operations of the hotel. From pre-opening planning and project coordination through to day-to-day operations, you will ensure that all building systems perform to the highest standards of luxury hospitality.Working closely with the developer, project teams, and hotel leadership, you will play a key role in the transition from construction to operations—ensuring a seamless handover and a strong foundation for the hotel's future performance.Key ResponsibilitiesLead all engineering and maintenance functions during pre-opening and ongoing operationsAct as the primary liaison between ownership, developers, contractors, and hotel operations teamsOversee commissioning, testing, and handover of all building systems including HVAC, MEP, BMS, life safety, and energy systemsEnsure full compliance with local laws, regulations, and statutory requirements, including safety, environmental, and building codesDevelop and implement preventative maintenance programs and asset management strategiesEstablish engineering budgets, CAPEX planning, and cost control measuresBuild, lead, and mentor a high-performing engineering teamDrive sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives aligned with brand standardsAbout YouProven experience as a Director of Engineering (or similar senior role) within luxury or lifestyle hotelsStrong pre-opening experience, ideally working closely with developers and project teamsDeep technical knowledge of hotel engineering systems (HVAC, MEP, BMS, energy management, life safety)Strong understanding of local building codes, compliance frameworks, and regulatory requirements in Italy (Rome preferred)Demonstrated ability to transition assets from construction to full hotel operationsCommercially astute with experience in budgeting, CAPEX, and cost managementStrong leadership presence with the ability to influence across ownership, development, and operations stakeholdersHighly organised, solutions-driven, and comfortable in a fast-paced pre-opening environmentFluency in English preferred; Italian is a mustWhy Baccarat RomeThis is a rare opportunity to be part of a landmark luxury hotel opening—shaping not only the infrastructure but the long-term operational success of a globally recognised brand.
