Bozen/Bolzano full-time Research Support Office Short description of the position: Eurac Research is a private research organization based in Bolzano/Bozen, Italy. Our research institutes and centers are seeking answers to global challenges through interaction between a variety of disciplines: keeping societies healthy, fostering intact environments, promoting sustainable energy and developing well-functioning political and social systems. We develop concrete solutions for regional problems which can then be applied globally. The Research Support Office RSO assists our researchers in the ever-changing international scientific landscape and across the entire research lifecycle, with a view to maximize success in research funding, support early career researchers and participate in developing policy issues around research impact, ethics and integrity, gender and Open Science. We support the involvement of Eurac Research in national/regional, European and international research collaborations. The Research Support Office is building up a Knowledge Transfer Office at Eurac Research which will assist the researchers in the identification, protection, management and valorisation of Eurac’s research results. We are looking for a new team member to provide support on legal aspects of knowledge and technology transfer at Eurac Research. - Mission of the Role_ The Legal Collaborator with expertise in Intellectual Property supports the Knowledge Transfer Office of Eurac Research in the protection, management, and valorisation of intellectual property (IP) and in the related contractual matters. The role contributes to defining Eurac Research’s IP Policy, to the creation and management of the IP portfolio, and to the strategic use of intellectual property in line with the institution’s mission. Main Responsibilities - Contribute to the drafting and implementation of Eurac Research’s IP Policy. - Provide technical-legal analysis of research results to assess their protectability (patents, copyright, software, trademarks, trade secrets). - Carry out IP assessments (preliminary patentability analyses, portfolio reviews). - Manage the filing and maintenance of IP rights, including deadline monitoring, renewals, territorial coverage, and cost/benefit evaluations. - Handle IP-related contracts (non-disclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, licenses, joint ownership agreements, collaboration agreements, and spin-off contracts). - Provide internal advice to researchers and institutes on IP and IPR matters. - Manage relations with external consultants. - Monitor and update Eurac Research’s IP portfolio database. - Ensure alignment of IP practices with national and European regulations as well as with internal policies. Required Competences - Degree in Law or in technical-scientific disciplines with legal specialisation and/or in Intellectual Property. - Specialist training and/or proven experience in intellectual property and research-related contracts. - Previous experience in technology transfer offices, IP law firms, or research institutions is considered an asset. - In-depth knowledge of the main IP protection tools (patents, copyright, trademarks, design, trade secrets). - Experience in drafting and negotiating contracts at national and international level. - Ability to liaise effectively with researchers, companies, law firms, and IP consultants. - Practical knowledge of IP databases and portfolio management tools is an asset. - Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills. - Languages: fluent Italian and English; knowledge of German is considered a plus. - Enjoy working in a team and delivering a service to colleagues. - Friendly and self-confident.
