We are looking for a Junior Transmission / Optical Network Engineer to support the optical network testing lab of a major telecom client. This is a freelance role based in Milan, with hybrid work and excellent benefits — when traveling to the client’s office in Eschborn, Germany, all travel, food, and accommodation expenses are fully covered.


🔧 What You Will Do

* Support DWDM/OTN testing activities in the lab
* Configure test scenarios and execute shared test plans
* Work with vendors such as Huawei, Ciena, and Nokia
* Prepare clear and detailed test reports
* Participate in meetings and share progress updates
* Perform troubleshooting on WDM networks
* Use optical testing tools (OPM, OTDR, OSAs, line testers)
* Collaborate with the team to ensure high service quality


📡 Technical Skills (Must‑Have)

* Knowledge of DWDM networks (Huawei, Ciena, Nokia)
* Understanding of OTN (G.709)
* Basic knowledge of GMPLS and IP protocols
* Familiarity with optical fiber fundamentals
* Experience with WDM testing tools
* Ability to use NMS for WDM equipment
* Good MS Office skills
