Job Description
We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Scan Engine team, a group of professionals competing at global level on designing miniaturized and highly robust cameras to be integrated on Datalogic products. Scan Engine team is part of the Central R&D organization that reports to the company CTO.
Responsible for the design, testing, and validation of opto-mechanical components for complex miniaturized imaging systems (scan engines) used in barcode reading applications. These systems can read labels from a few centimeters up to 20 meters or more and must maintain optical alignment at the micron level when subjected to extreme mechanical stress levels (2500g shocks).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Execute detailed mechanical design, including 3D modeling, 2D drafting, tolerance analysis, FEM/thermal/stress simulations, and prototyping.
2. Contribute to product requirement definition and prepare verification plans for system and subsystem performance.
3. Validate designs against specifications and generate technical reports for design reviews and product development milestones.
4. Collaborate closely with system engineers, optical designers, hardware engineers, and manufacturing teams.
5. Engage in co-design with suppliers to ensure manufacturability and cost alignment.
6. Identify and communicate technical risks to project stakeholders.
7. Develop and execute test procedures to validate functionality and reliability.
8. Propose innovative solutions and support intellectual property protection through invention disclosures.
9. Contribute to effort estimation, delivery planning, and BOM creation.
10. Ensure design files and technical documentation are accurate, up to date, and compliant with internal procedures.
11. Support scan engine integration into finished products and contribute to maintenance across the product lifecycle.
Skills and Competencies:
Technical Skills:
12. Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
13. Proficiency in Siemens NX (3D CAD) and Siemens Teamcenter (PLM).
14. Strong knowledge of GD&T principles.
15. Expertise in injection molding, die-casting, and CNC machining for high-precision parts, including relevant standards.
16. Experience with FEM analysis and CFD simulation tools.
17. Proven track record in miniaturized imaging system design.
18. Solid understanding of physics and optics (plus).
19. Languages: italian; english fluent;
20. Experience: At least 5 years of experience in Mechanical Design, of opto-mechanical systems.
