This position reports to: Chapter Lead, Customer Application Engineers
In Electrification Business - Smart Power Division, we are looking for a Global Application Engineer for AC/DC microgrids with specific know how on microgrid algorithms, AC/ DC and DC/DC converters as well as electrical protections.
In this role you will be a team member of Agile Team (AT) Developing Applications and Solutions for Microgrid and E-mobility Infrastructure within Agile Unit (AU) Sustainable Energy.
The work model for the role is: hybrid.
This role is contributing to the Electrification Smart Power globally.
Your responsibilities:
Develop and promote reference architectures and application notes to support the deployment of AC and DC microgrids which involve low voltage portfolio of products, converters and digital solutions.
Set up and run simulations and test Microgrid algorithms and microgrid functional tests.
Support development test and validation of applications, including supplier and purchase activities.
Listen and support customers to identify the best solutions for their projects, including DC microgrid pilot projects.
Support development of adequate customer journey for the respective applications including related tools.
Interact with R&D, product management, digital teams and research centers discussing market need and new developments.
Participate in international standardization committee, seminars, fairs and customer events.
Analyze ABB and competitive landscape, monitor market trends in the above applications and recommend adjustments for the long and mid-term strategy.

Your background
Bachelor's / master’s degree in electrical engineering and preferably with 1-2 years experience in Microgrids control algorithms, and/or microgrid components like converters, battery energy storage, solar PV.
Basic know how in electrical systems such as PCS and battery protection and knowledge of Direct Current applications.
Simulations and test capabilities on microgrid, DERs and electrical systems would be considered a plus.
Ability to read and draw electrical diagrams and technical specifications would be considered a plus.
Technical understanding and willingness to learn and continuously acquire new competences.
Agile mindset and preferable experience in an agile working context.
Willingness to travel for short periods would be required.
Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Negotiation skills, market knowledge, leadership skills, social skills complete the profile.
