Fondazione Telethon is a major Italian charity focused on rare genetic diseases. Founded in 1990, its mission is to advance biomedical research towards the cure of genetic diseases with the ultimate goal of making new therapies available to patients in need. Fondazione Telethon has 3,024 projects with an overall funding of 698 million Euro, conducted through its research institutes and grants to Italian academic institutions. Its efforts aim to translate research from the lab to the patient bedside, supported by expertise in translational research management, regulatory affairs, quality, CMC, clinical operations, and business development. Since 2023, Fondazione Telethon is also the holder of marketing authorization in Europe for Strimvelis, an ex vivo gene therapy for an ultra-rare immunodeficiency.
Position
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Business Development Team. We welcome applications from junior candidates eager to gain experience in this field. The Business Development Fellow / Associate will be part of the Business Development Office, responsible for managing and enhancing know-how and intellectual property, and supporting scientific groups to generate new therapeutic and diagnostic products through successful partnerships with industry and investors.
The role involves identifying and assessing innovative projects with translational potential, supporting their development via third-party technologies, funding, industry partnerships, and venture creation. The Fellow / Associate will help build value propositions and create research and business opportunities, focusing on the pipeline of Fondazione Telethon Institutes.
What You'll Do
* Contribute to scouting innovative technologies and projects with translational potential, evaluating their development and business prospects;
* Assist in defining exploitation plans, considering development steps, market applicability, competitive landscape, and potential partners and investors;
* Support scientists in preparing development and exploitation grants;
* Prepare marketing materials to promote technologies and projects to prospective industrial partners and investors, and assist scientists in interactions with them, especially on non-scientific project aspects;
* Contribute to negotiating agreements related to marketing activities, IP, licensing, NDAs, MTAs, grants, and collaborations;
* Collaborate with Marketing and Communication teams to promote FT Business Development activities and their impact in life sciences.
What You'll Need
* Background in Life Sciences and experience in academic research (PhD preferred);
* At least 2 years of experience as a business analyst or in Business Development roles;
* An MBA is a plus;
* Excellent command of English, both spoken and written;
* Ability to work independently and in teams on complex issues;
* Strong project management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and handle multiple projects;
* Excellent communication skills across scientific, business, legal, and administrative stakeholders;
* Ability to build effective relationships with scientists and industry partners, bridging scientific and business communities.
