RN is also responsible for the supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses, Mental Health Technicians, and Unit Secretary. Provides services to patients whose ages range from adult to geriatric. Responsibilities: Analyze pertinent clinical data from patients and other relevant resources; achieve good initial rapport with patients; effectively gather clinical data in a timely fashion; utilize appropriate verbal and observational techniques; data includes relevant physiological and psychosocial information. Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and significant others; create an atmosphere which facilitates disclosure and active participation in the therapeutic process; actively work to achieve patients trust; facilitate patient awareness of their internal resources for coping; utilize therapeutic verbal and nonverbal techniques. Provide appropriate nursing care to assist patients in meeting Maslow’s Level I needs; consistently make pertinent observations regarding patient’s physiological status; appropriately address variances from physiological norms; as indicated, accurately monitor vital bodily functions; assist with ADLs as indicated. Respond appropriately to physiological emergencies. Adequately ensure the safety of all patients; identify patients at risk and intervene preventatively. Utilize clinically sound repertoire of psychotherapeutic nursing interventions. Consistently participate in goal-oriented interactions with patients. Seek to decrease patient symptomology through effective limit setting, reality orientation, redirection, confrontation, etc.; demonstrate effective crisis intervention skills as indicated; reinforce healthy patient behaviors; promote healthy expression of thoughts and feelings. Consistently choose interventions compatible with the therapeutic relationship established between the nurse and the patient; creatively motivate patients to participate in the therapeutic process. Utilize knowledge of medications (psychotropic and other) in the treatment process; serve as a knowledgeable resource to other staff regarding patient medications; collaborate in the evaluation of the patient's medication regime; appropriately utilize PRN medication; recognize and respond to medication-related problems/issues (side-effects, laboratory results, etc.) Participate in health/wellness education of patients; identify health education needs of individual patients; actively pursue opportunities to conduct both individual and group patient education; provide opportunities for patients to learn experientially; promote patient independence through health teaching. Participate as a vital member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team. Communicate clearly and consistently with other team members. Provide concise and meaningful shift reports; collaborate with and utilize other resources to resolve treatment issues; participate in support treatment program development; represent nursing perspective appropriately. Function as an effective nursing leader on the unit; role-model attitudes and behaviors that positively impact patient care and staff morale; provide support and direction to staff; utilize good judgment in patient care assignment; demonstrate sound and creative decision-making and problem-solving; utilize resources efficiently; assume teaching roles to develop staff skills. Perform routine clinical nursing tasks such as medication and treatment administration, transcribing physician orders, vital signs, etc.; accurately administer medications; transcribe physician orders; complete all forms (Nursing Assessment, Problems List, Treatment Plan, Progress Notes, etc.) timely; complete relevant hospital forms (Incident Reports, Acuity Worksheets, Transfer Forms, Medication Sheets, etc.) accurately and promptly; utilize documentation to develop comprehensive understanding of patients. Contribute to the development of the RN role within the department and hospital; participate in the orientation of new RNs/LPNs and nursing staff; present relevant information/material; utilize expertise to assist peers.
