Job Mission:
As a Senior R&D; Designer, you will drive the development of advanced custom and special solutions for customer applications worldwide.
You will work closely with Product Engineering (PE), key customers and the R&D; team to transform complex requirements into robust, innovative and industrialized designs that strengthen Piab's position as a global leader in automation and vacuum technology.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support Product Engineers (PEs) globally with custom requests by analyzing needs and proposing feasible technical solutions.
Provide direct technical support to key customers, especially for critical applications, acting as a senior technical counterpart in discussions and design reviews.
Lead the design and development of high-level, complex custom and special solutions, from concept to released design.
Use CAD (Inventor and/or SolidWorks) to create 3D models, assemblies and detailed manufacturing drawings, ensuring high quality and manufacturability.
Work efficiently with PDM/PLM systems to manage product data, revisions, and documentation in line with internal standards.
Collaborate closely with the R&D; team on new concepts, prototypes, and technology evaluations.
Prioritize assigned projects and applications in parallel, ensuring on-time delivery and clear communication with stakeholders.
Contribute to continuous improvement of design methods, tools, and standards within the team.
PREFERRED COMPETENCIES:
Strong expertise in 3D CAD, preferably Autodesk Inventor and/or SolidWorks.
Solid experience working with PDM/PLM systems for product data and configuration management.
Senior-level technical competence in mechanical or mechatronic design, ideally within industrial equipment, automation or similar fields.
Proven experience working closely with customers on custom or special solution development (from requirement gathering to finalized design).
Ability to manage and follow several applications and projects at the same time, with good prioritization and time-management skills.
Strong teamwork orientation and excellent collaboration skills across functions (PE, R&D;, sales, operations, etc.).
Good level of English in speaking, writing and listening, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly.
An open, proactive and solution-oriented personality with a high sense of ownership and responsibility for delivered designs.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, Mechatronics or a closely related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
Several years (typically 9+ years) of experience in mechanical and/or mechatronic design in an industrial environment.
Prior experience in custom/special machinery, automation systems, vacuum technology, or similar technical domains is an advantage.
Experience in a global or multi-site environment, working with international colleagues and customers, is a plus.
