About The Position
We are seeking a Technologist Engineer to join the ELS Engineering - Display Product Group - System Integration Department. This position is based at our Corbetta office.
As a Technologist Engineer, you will oversee leading mechanical DFM activities with suppliers and plant process engineers during co-design and detailed design phases, ensuring smooth supplier nomination and tooling kick-off activities. You will be responsible for your assigned project to release and integrate applicable standard tools/components supply specifications and part design related to specific technological requirements for externally developed manufacturing tools and processes (e.g., plastic injection Mold Book). You will also approve supplier technical proposals with plant process and Supplier Quality Engineers to meet these requirements. Additionally, you will provide technical support for supplier quality (buy parts) and process engineering (make parts) external tools and processes approvals. For technologies where you have deep knowledge and are appointed as an R&D reference, you will support Mechanical Lead Engineers and Technologist colleagues to assess feasibility and optimize mechanical concept/design.
Your Responsibilities Will Be
* Support Mechanical Lead Engineer in RFI/RFQ and co-design activities ensuring technological feasibility of mechanical concepts and architecture proposals.
* Proactively manage DFM activities, either personally (before supplier activation) or with suppliers (after nomination/activation).
* Assist design phase by evaluating technological feasibility of special features or processes and optimizing product concept/design.
* Ensure BOM cost-optimized design solutions in collaboration with the Mechanical Lead Engineer.
* At DFM phase closure, provide formal feasibility reports on mechanical 2D/3D models and Mold Flow studies for injection molding parts.
* Adopt standard released forms for reports and technical presentations where available.
* Release part design related technological requirements for externally developed manufacturing tools and processes (e.g., plastic injection Mold Book) as needed.
* Provide feedback on supplier proposals’ compliance with requirements in the offer phase.
* Assist sourcing in evaluating coherence of suppliers’ tool construction effort and cycle time estimates in the offer phase.
* Monitor project status and deliverables for DFM, tooling construction, and tooling/process approvals; communicate major deviations to the Mechanical Lead Engineer.
* Monitor tooling construction and process trials; communicate schedule deviations and, upon request, progress and effort data to the Mechanical Lead Engineer.
* Ensure design solutions are compatible with tooling and equipment aligned with project assumptions and cost estimates.
* Actively participate in DFMEA / PFMEA / Design Review sessions.
* Attend technical presentation events at Customer facilities or support Customer visits to supplier sites upon request by the Mechanical Lead Engineer.
* Support root cause analysis and countermeasure definition for design or process validation failures when requested by the Mechanical Lead Engineer.
What Qualifications You Will Bring
* Knowledge of Injection/compression molding, complex overmolding, plastic welding, materials properties and treatments, optical bonding technologies.
* Good knowledge of Injection Mold design, constructive materials and process parameters.
