Mechanical Project Engineer, Project Execution, Design Engineering QualityJob ID: | Amazon.com Services LLCAre you a motivated Mechanical Engineer ready to take ownership of complex automated fulfillment projects while developing the next generation of engineers? We're seeking an ambitious Mechanical Project Engineer to join our dynamic team and help us drive the delivery of Amazon's logistics network expansion.Job FunctionsMechanical Design and Engineering (Primary Focus: Execution + Oversight):

Own and develop subsystem layouts for automated material handling systems with minimal oversightIndependently select and specify conveyor types, third-party equipment, and systems to meet project requirementsCoordinate with electrical, controls, and structural engineers to ensure integrated design solutionsDeliver complete 3D models and manage clash detection for entire project areas

Project Execution and Delivery:

Execute and manage mechanical engineering deliverables, schedules, and quality standardsCoordinate with construction teams to resolve layout conflicts and ensure efficient installationLead communication with on-site construction teams, making decisions to address field issuesProduce complete installation packages ready for construction useMonitor progress of engineers on the subsystem team and ensure deliverables meet project timelinesEnter and peer review orders for mechanical equipment ensuring accurate and timely releases to manufacturing

Technical Leadership and Mentorship:

Perform and validate all system and component calculations independently (throughput, motor power, belt pull, structural loads)Engineer solutions for custom parts and non-standard applicationsDirectly mentor and guide engineers on technical approaches, design standards, and problem-solving methodsReview and approve work of junior engineers, providing constructive feedback and technical directionAssign appropriate project tasks to team members based on their skill level and development needsTeach best practices and help junior engineers build their technical capabilities

Quality Ownership and Problem-Solving:

Ensure and validate that mechanical designs meet all safety, regulatory, and performance standardsReview engineering calculations, designs and equipment orders for accuracy and completeness before submissionIdentify and resolve design issues proactively during all project phasesDrive improvements based on lessons learned and apply to current workMake technical decisions with input from senior engineers as needed and document rationale for installation teams

Key Job Responsibilities

Independently translate customer drawings and specifications into fully functional mechanical conveyor systemsOptimize and deliver working mechanical system designs within budget, coordinating with other disciplinesOwn 3D modeling and clash detection management for project sub areasProduce complete 2D customer approval and installation layout drawingsPerform and validate spatial analysis of clearance envelopes, egress pathways, etc.Execute system and component level calculations with minimal review neededReview and approve calculations performed by Level 4 engineers with assistance from senior engineersEngineer custom parts needed for non-standard design applicationsApply safety regulations and ergonomic standardsCreate complete conveyor manifests meeting electrical and controls requirementsDocument all engineering decisions through complete installation files and clear instructionsOversee deliverables of junior engineers, ensuring quality and completenessProvide technical guidance to junior engineers on complex design challenges with assistance from senior engineersTravel to sites to conduct surveys, audits, and resolve field issuesLead installation support and commissioning activities for your projectsDevelop engineers through hands‐on mentorship and feedback

Experience in management of engineering design projectsExperience using one or more of the following CAD technologies: AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, CREO, BIM360, SketchUp or KeyShotCan communicate effectively with all levels of the organization3+ years of Design/Innovation, research & development, manufacturing, process, industrial engineering, or related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Engineering (any domain) or foreign equivalent, Operations, Business Administration, or a related fieldKnowledge of concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision makingExperience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems and high‐speed manufacturingExperience with design‐in‐safetyExperience with process design based on Lean PrinciplesExperience with industry safety and egress standards such as IBC and ANSI B11.19

Your Amazon package will include sign‐on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
