The Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (DISI) at the University of Trento, Italy, announces the opening of a three-year fixed-term researcher position (RTD-a) in Telecommunications. This position is co-funded by the NET4EXA project under the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) and CNIT – Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni.
The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in the following areas:
– Networking for High Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence systems, and exascale architectures
– Modeling and optimization of network traffic under bursty and latency-sensitive workloads
– Design of NIC-centric algorithms for on-NIC computing (including MPI collectives, sparsification, quantization)
– In-network processing on switches, such as collective offloading, caching, and NFV integration
– Profiling and optimization of NIC-host power trade-offs for energy-aware communications
– Development of topology-aware and congestion-aware communication algorithms
– Evaluation of innovative I/O paths, including NVMe-over-Fabrics and containerized deployment models
Requirements
– PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology)
– Early-career research experience
– Ability to contribute to the design, benchmarking, and optimization of advanced communication features in HPC/AI environments
– Willingness to engage in teaching activities (minimum 20 hours/year) at BSc, MSc, or PhD level
– Interest in collaboration with EU partners and internal research groups on NET4EXA topics
