We are currently seeking a Project Network Engineer to join Thales Land and Air Systems at the NAS Center of Competence in Gorgonzola (near Milan). Responsibilities Planning and commissioning of network-based infrastructures Collaborate with Network Architects to define complex distributed systems Support configuration of network infrastructure and Thales products responsible for remote control systems Investigate interoperability issues related to networking in cooperation with project managers, customer service, and other resources Additional key tasks include: Providing technical support during tender and contract negotiations Preparing detailed technical tender comments with support from Product Managers and others Performing Site Surveys and preparing reports for domestic and export projects involving terrestrial navigation systems and related subsystems Selecting Navaid system configurations and recommending solutions based on experience and simulations Providing technical specifications, requesting quotes, and supporting supplier selection in collaboration with procurement Developing project-specific design documentation and as-built documentation, with assistance from draftsmen Resolving technical on-site issues in cooperation with project team and stakeholders Required Skills and Experience Broad technical knowledge across fields from civil works to engineering Degree in technical engineering, preferably in IT/telecommunications and electrical engineering/RF propagation Minimum 4 years experience in project/system engineering (domestic/export) Extensive understanding of network standards (VLAN, Routing, VPNs, DNS, etc.), Cisco CCNP certification preferred Experience configuring and installing network devices/services (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, QoS) Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, SNMP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSL/TLS, SSH, FTP) Proficient in Linux OS and desktop/server environments Programming skills in script languages like Python, Perl, Bash for automation Experience with network monitoring, diagnostics, and analytics tools Ability to understand regulations/standards such as EN, ICAO, and local standards Experience with remote control functions over various media (copper, fiber, radio, GSM/LTE/xG, SAT) Understanding of Airspace Mobility Solutions to negotiate with customers and consultants The candidate should also have: Fluent English, both written and spoken Additional languages (German, Spanish, French) at a technical level for tender and contract support Willingness to travel internationally, including to critical regions, following security protocols At Thales, we offer careers, not just jobs.
