* KWS Vegetables Breeding station in Noceto, Italy
* The Breeder Tomato will contribute to the execution of our Breeding team in Italy. They will report to the Head of Breeding within the Vegetables business unit of KWS.
Job purpose
Develop commercially successful varieties for specific market segments in an efficient way.
Your Tasks
* Development: Optimize efficiency and output of the breeding program by developing and implementing new technologies, equipment, and breeding methods within the crop improvement process, using and generating relevant genetic material in the targeted environment.
* Management information: Advise and collaborate with the Head of Breeding and Local Crop Team on crop-specific breeding strategies. Participate in Crop Team discussions to enhance information exchange and support decision-making.
* Breeding plan: Formulate, design, and execute the crop-specific breeding plan after approval from the Head of Breeding, aligning with the company's strategic decisions.
* Budget responsibility: Develop and implement operational plans for the breeding program, following approval from the Head of Breeding.
* Management: Lead and coordinate breeding activities across local and international sites, ensuring team efficiency through structured planning, clear communication, and strategic resource allocation.
* Support: Provide technical and product expertise to all departments to enable informed decision-making and operational efficiency.
* HRM: Manage personnel within the breeding team, including appraisal, training, development, and career planning, in cooperation with HR.
Your profile
* MSc+ with 5+ years or PhD+ with 3+ years in plant breeding or genetics.
* In-depth knowledge of horticulture, agronomy, genetics, pathology, physiology, and molecular genetics.
* Computer skills in data management, management information systems, databases, and spreadsheets.
* Language skills: Italian (must) & English (must).
* Experience in management, organization, and planning.
* Ability to work independently.
* Excellent communication and pragmatic skills.
* Analytical, structured, and solution-oriented work ethic, with a quick grasp and high personal responsibility, commitment, and flexibility.
* Team player with a hands-on mentality.
* Remark: National & international travel approximately 30-40%.
