Amazon Data Center Commissioning Engineer (CxE) works in a fast‑paced environment to support the construction and commissioning of critical infrastructure at Amazon‑owned data centers. The role involves evaluating engineering designs, managing vendor coordination, and overseeing the testing of electrical and mechanical systems to meet customer and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Review design documents, submittal packages, and test plans for compliance with engineering intent.
Lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT) and perform system‑level and integrated system testing during construction.
Audit commissioning activities to ensure environmental, quality, and safety compliance.
Provide weekly status reports and lessons learned to improve program quality.
Coordinate with AWS engineering, capacity delivery, operations, and contractor teams to prioritize tasks and resolve issues.
Escalate critical project risks to stakeholders and communicate project completion outcomes.
Support multiple projects under tight timelines.

Physical Requirements
Walk job sites in uneven terrain and work at heights from ladders.
Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Lift or move up to 49 pounds, and participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.
Carry objects up to 49 pounds for short distances.
Work shifts longer than eight hours; potential night and weekend work.
Perform physical tasks throughout the day without becoming overly tired.
Manipulate small wires and objects easily.
Work in noisy, colder, or hotter environments than a typical office.
Additional Job Requirements
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for up to 80% of the year.
Provide personal transportation for meetings and job visits; reimbursed.
U.S. citizenship required.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or five years of relevant discipline work experience.
High technical competency in either mechanical, electrical, or control systems used in critical infrastructures, with ability to learn the others.
Understand design concept and intent by reviewing mechanical or electrical design documentation, drawings, specifications, vendor submittals, and sequences of operations, and provide feedback in accordance with Amazon standards.
Develop or review commissioning documentation such as test plans, scripts, and reports to ensure accuracy against design requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook; advanced knowledge of SharePoint or similar preferred.
Strong communication, detail‑oriented, highly organized, and able to work under high‑stress conditions while maintaining calm and respectful interaction with multiple teams.
Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for critical infrastructures.
Ability to read and edit construction documents (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.).
Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submittals.
