Role description
The Mechanical engineer combines the technical expertise of mechanical design with the organizational and leadership responsibilities of project management. They are tasked with developing innovative mechanical systems or products and overseeing the successful completion of design work from start to finish.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Design work:
* The mechatronics engineer designs mechanical (Mechatronic) systems or products using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software to create detailed 2D or 3D models of components and assemblies.
* Conducts feasibility analysis and develops new products.
* Performs cost estimation for new designs in cooperation with Procurement and Production departments.
* Creates specifications for suppliers.
* Supports suppliers with design changes and improvements.
* Develops prototypes, tests them, and refines the design based on performance or user feedback.
* Chooses appropriate materials balancing cost, durability, weight, and functionality. Develops and maintains Bills of Materials (BOMs).
* Performs stress, thermal, and fluid flow analyses (manually or using FEA tools like ANSYS) to ensure robustness and real-world applicability of designs.
* Creates technical drawings, specifications, and manuals, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
* Provides support to Customer Care for issues or service activities.
Project management:
* Executes projects on time and within budget, proposing corrective actions or updating stakeholders as needed.
* Coordinates with other departments (e.g., electrical engineers, manufacturing teams) to ensure resource availability and efficient use.
* Leads project teams of designers, engineers, technicians, or external suppliers, ensuring alignment with project goals and facilitating communication and collaboration.
* Manages project budgets, including cost estimation, tracking, and negotiations with suppliers or contractors.
* Identifies potential risks (e.g., delays, supply chain disruptions, design flaws) and develops mitigation strategies (DFMEA / PFMEA).
Final delivery:
* Ensures product readiness for manufacturing by providing detailed specifications, drawings, and production instructions upon finalization and approval.
* Oversees post-delivery support (SAT), including troubleshooting, customer feedback, and potential design revisions or upgrades.
Education and experience
* Degree in Industrial Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a similar field.
* At least 5 years of experience in a technical office environment, including team leadership.
* Knowledge of safety standards in machine design.
* Understanding of main mechanical machining processes, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electric subsystems.
* Proficiency in 3D modeling (preferably Autodesk Inventor) and simulation tools.
* Familiarity with tools like MS Project, Jira, or Trello for tracking progress and managing resources.
* Experience with ERP systems.
* Proficiency in MS Office tools.
