As a Project Procurement Manager (PPM) at SMS group, you will be responsible for the operational execution of procurement activities within international customer projects. You will work in close collaboration with Head of Supply Chain, Project Supply Chain Management (PSCM), Engineering, Project Management and Strategic Purchasing to ensure timely, cost-effective, and contract-compliant sourcing of materials and services.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate procurement activities for the assigned project and plan purchase orders based on material requirements and project-specific priorities.
* Execute project-specific procurement activities with focus on mechanical equipment and materials according to drawings (mechanical, pneumatic, or electrical components based on specifications prepared by Engineering) from purchase requisition to direct negotiation to follow up.
* Ensure procurement activities comply with project contracts, technical specifications, and SMS purchasing policies.
* Coordinate with Engineering to clarify technical requirements.
* Validate and contact selected suppliers and negotiate purchasing terms and supply conditions, including quantities, lead times, prices, and delivery terms.
* Act as the primary contact for suppliers after order placement.
* Support expediting activities and proactively manage delivery risks.
* Support inspection, testing, and supplier documentation in cooperation with Quality Management.
* Support invoice verification, commercial clarifications, and claim-related topics.
* Maintain accurate procurement data and reporting in ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
* Actively identify and develop new suppliers for the assigned procurement categories.
Qualifications
* Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or comparable qualification.
* Sound knowledge of international procurement processes and contract terms.
* Good knowledge of mechanical drawings.
* Excellent knowledge of English and Italian.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and experienced in using ERP systems (SAP).
* Minimum 3/5 experience in project procurement, preferably in plant engineering, mechanical engineering, or heavy industry.
* Willingness to travel internationally.
* Strong communication and coordination skills in an international environment.
* Structured, proactive, and solution-oriented working style.
