System Development Engineer II, Robotics Integration and Optimization Services

Amazon is building the next generation software, hardware, and processes to run our state‐of‐the‐art global fulfillment network that moves many millions of units of inventory, ensuring that customers get what they want when promised. We are constantly innovating in the ways we are automating and accelerating the delivery of packages which includes custom robotics, mechatronics, conveyance, supply chain optimization, machine learning, manipulation, image processing, and real‐time data processing using distributed systems.

We are looking for a System Development Engineer with a passion for developing embedded industrial software and control systems to transform the way we integrate robotics within our global network of advanced warehouses. This position is a unique opportunity to be involved in a wide range of automation projects right from the start. You will interface with multiple internal Amazon R&D and design teams as well as the world's leading automation strategic partners who have the technology and resources to meet Amazon's growth needs on a global scale.

This is a role in a growing team responsible for realizing the convergence of modern software development with traditional industrial control. It is an early‐stage initiative with a fast‐paced, highly collaborative start‐up like environment inside Amazon, so to be successful you need to be flexible and entrepreneurial. You are a true owner – you are hands‐on and you lead by example.

Key Job Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain control software applications for mechatronic systems using modern software development practices, including CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.

- Implement automated testing frameworks and deployment strategies to ensure code quality, reliability, and seamless integration of control systems software.

- Develop and optimize motion control algorithms, embedded programs, and real‐time control systems for industrial automation.

- Drive operational excellence through monitoring, analysis, and continuous improvement of software performance metrics and system reliability.

- Collaborate with cross‐functional teams to identify process improvements, and troubleshoot issues with mechatronic systems.

- 25% travel expected to support onsite system testing.

Basic Qualifications

- 4+ years of non‐internship professional software development experience.

- 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.

- Proficiency programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust.

- 3+ years of professional software engineering & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence experience.

- 2+ years of embedded software development experience.

- Experience deploying and supporting mechatronic systems.

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree.

- Experience building services using AWS products.

- Experience with Linux/Unix.

- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes.

- Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.

- Experience with CODESYS, industrial fieldbus protocols such as Profinet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT.

Salary and Benefits

- USA, TN, Nashville - $122,800.00 - $166,100.00 USD annually

- USA, VA, Arlington - $129,200.00 - $174,800.00 USD annually

- USA, WA, BELLEVUE - $129,200.00 - $174,800.00 USD annually
