Job Description
We are looking for a highly skilled Staff Engineer to drive the technical evolution of our software engineering ecosystem through hands‐on work. Stellantis software runs everywhere: on deeply embedded ECUs, in infotainment and telematics systems, and on powerful central compute platforms. It must scale across brands and models, port across many variants, architectures and operating systems, and be built through a constant stream of diverse toolchains. At Stellantis, we focus on a consistent build process and treat our build system as a product that empowers our teams and hides complexity from our developers. We apply platform engineering principles and deep expertise, adopting Bazel to deliver fast, incremental, reproducible builds and unified workflows across teams and languages. The dependency graph serves as the foundation for correctness, traceability, and reuse, ensuring our build infrastructure scales with the demands of a diverse and evolving software landscape.
What we are looking for
We're looking for someone who enjoys both precision and impact. Someone who can go deep into Bazel and Starlark when needed, and who can also communicate clearly with developers and stakeholders in a platform‐engineering mindset. You build trust through clean abstractions, pragmatic standards, and a relentless focus on developer experience.
What you'll do
- Own and advance Bazel rules/toolchains for multi‐language, multi‐architecture builds.
- Deliver reproducible, hermetic builds on every host and embedded target.
- Make quality first class: SBOMs, license checks, standards, tests.
- Provide clean abstraction so developers work through a stable interface.
- Tighten CI/CD integration and drive build/test performance insights.
- Stand the ecosystem coherence through shared conventions/inner source.
- Enable our large‐scale migration to variant aware, cross‐ECU builds.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing, train and coach project and domain teams.
Profile
Required Qualifications
- Deep Bazel + Starlark expertise and experience with cross‐compilation.
- Strong C/C++ skills plus Rust or Python; confident with embedded toolchains.
- Proven ability to deliver reproducible builds on Windows and Linux.
- Experience in variant and platform‐aware build setups at scale.
- Comfortable with integrating tests and quality gates directly into the build.
- Efficiency: Graph first, pipeline second mindset.
- Platform Thinking: "Make the whole system better" attitude.
- Pragmatic & collaborative, building partnerships with CI/CD and project teams.
Nice to haves
- Automotive/embedded experience (safety, standards, reproducibility).
- Monorepo migration experience.
- Treating rules, toolchains, and configs as product assets.
- Familiar with AUTOSAR architecture (Classic & Adaptive).
Stack you'll touch
- Bazel core: rules, toolchains, platforms, remote caching/execution on Windows & Linux.
- Compilers: GCC/Clang plus various embedded vendors (TriCore, V850) and AUTOSAR aligned codegen.
- Quality: linters, formatters, coverage, SBOM/licensing, security — all as first‐class build targets.
- CI/CD: GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Artifactory, containers; build graph as the single source of truth.
- Infra: Scale builds on a stable remote‐caching and execution infrastructure.
