It is an internal position with the title Automation Engineer.About the RoleThe Automation Engineer will oversee the integration of shop floor equipment with IT and OT systems across various domains.
The main responsibility is to ensure the efficient flow of data from the shop floor to the enterprise level by coordinating and implementing a middleware setup that facilitates data transfer.
The engineer will define data points based on business requirements and industry best practices, oversee the configuration of end‑to‑end interfaces, conduct thorough qualification processes, and maintain operational stability throughout the integration.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, deliver, and qualify IT/OT system solutions and their integration for a given project or use case.Align detailed designs with the defined solution architecture and create process designs for day‑to‑day operation.Execute project activities in accordance with lifecycle, budget, schedule, and compliance requirements.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver technical solutions to manufacturing sites.Ensure designs adhere to solution architectural design, roadmap, and support development, execution, and operations of software or services.Facilitate peer reviews and obtain business sign‑off for detailed designs.Consider user experience when designing and implementing solutions and services.Adhere to security and compliance policies and support internal and external audits when necessary.Maintain stable operations for implemented global IT/OT solutions.Contribute to business case development.Essential Requirements5+ years of technical experience delivering global solutions to customers, preferably in automation engineering for pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.Knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art IT/OT infrastructures, architectures, applications, and tools.Experience with automation technologies and software platforms such as SCADA, Historian, MES.Familiarity with industry standards and protocols for communication and data exchange (e.g., OPC, MQTT).Understanding of manufacturing operations and processes, with strong ability to leverage digital technology and big data.Excellent communication skills in English and Italian, with strong collaboration across boundaries and a curious mindset.Desirable RequirementsExperience working in a GxP environment.Experience with robotics.Commitment to Diversity & InclusionWe are committed to building an outstanding, inclusive work environment and diverse teams representative of the patients and communities we serve.Accessibility and AccommodationNovartis is committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodation to all individuals.
