Mechanical Project Designer UPS – Tenova We are looking for a Mechanical Project Designer to join our Melt Shops Team, with strong passion for technology and a motivation to work within a multicultural and challenging environment. The role will contribute to high‑technology, complex projects in an international setting.
Responsibilities
Design in 2D and 3D formats, considering customer requirements, timing, quality, reliability, cost optimisation and manufacturability for all new equipment design projects.
Prepare layout drawings that show how and where equipment will be installed in the client’s plant.
Develop all mechanical aspects of a project, preparing and verifying basic and detailed engineering for internal and external stakeholders.
Estimate structural and equipment weights during the basic engineering phases to optimise technical design, and develop bills of materials.
Perform detailed engineering elaboration based on input data from Project Engineers, Mechanical Department Managers, Process Engineers, R&D teams, and Proposal departments.
Manage external engineering studios, ensuring timely progression of the project schedule.
Design equipment compliant with all applicable regulations, defining project standard specifications in cooperation with Project Engineers and contractual targets.
Understand, develop and review civil works design for machine installation.
Conduct on‑site inspections from site surveys to as‑built documentation verification.
Convert 2D drawings into 3D models and create drawings from 3D models, performing verification analyses (e.g., FEM).
Apply knowledge of critical manufacturing processes (CNC milling, sheet metal bending, laser cutting, welding, etc.) to select appropriate manufacturing procedures.
Participate in inspections, meetings at suppliers, production sites, customers, and manufacturing premises as required.
Generate scope of work specifications that define included work, exclusions, and technical requirements for each equipment package or component.
Manage and supervise execution of outsourced tasks.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Mechanical Design or equivalent, with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
Experience in mechanical design is a must.
Proficiency in Autodesk software (AutoCAD, Inventor) and strong CAD skills.
Knowledge of main manufacturing processes for semi‑finished product production (CNC milling, sheet metal bending, laser cutting, welding, etc.).
Steel industry experience (at least 3 years) is a plus.
Familiarity with Autodesk Pro/Engineer software is a plus.
Good knowledge of CAD and FEM software (Ansys, Nastran, Recap, Inventor, NavisWorks).
Experience with 3D/2D CAD and technical calculation methods.
Effective knowledge of the English language.
Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and other advanced PC tools.
Willingness to travel.

Strong coordination and planning abilities.
