Overview
CAMPUS SECURITY OFFICER (Promotional & Open Competitive)
Responsibilities include maintaining a regular patrol of the school campus to prevent vandalism, loitering by non-students, and other disruptive behavior; assisting in enforcement of school and district regulations; and performing related work as required.
Essential Functions
* Patrols campus during school hours providing general supervision of students outside of class;
* Is alert for problems likely to disrupt educational process or be physically injurious to persons or property;
* Establishes rapport with faculty and students to gain their trust and confidence;
* Assists teachers, when requested, in dealing with unruly students;
* Intervenes in situations likely to result in disruption or injury and requests students to refrain from such conduct;
* Refers students to the Assistant Principal\'s office in cases of flagrant or repeated violations of school regulations;
* Records data, makes oral and written reports;
* Maintains working liaison with local law enforcement agencies.
Knowledge Of
Laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the conduct of juveniles and the community.
Ability To
* Use good judgment in emergencies and take effective action;
* Work calmly with students;
* Understand and follow a work schedule and oral and written instructions;
* Maintain harmonious working relations with school officials, employees, students, and the public;
* Work effectively with individual students and groups.
Education & Experience Requirements
Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade or informal education sufficient to perform job duties and work with youth organizations or related activities.
Selection Process
The examination process may include screening of training, background, experience; evaluation of supplemental applications; written exams; oral and performance examinations. Only the most qualified candidates will be invited to continue. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for one year.
Additional Information
Applicants accepted will be scheduled for written and oral exams (dates TBD). No make-up exams will be offered. The eligibility list may be used for full-time, part-time, or limited-term positions. New employees start at step A; maximum salary after 3.5 years.
