WHO WE ARE
At the Center for Biomolecular Nanotechnologies (CBN) of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), in Lecce, Italy ( ) we work enthusiastically to develop human‐centered science and technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. CBN is strictly linked to IIT Genoa headquarter and other 11 IIT centers in Italy, as well as two outer‐stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience. The selected applicant will be mostly working at CBN.
YOUR TEAM
You will be working in a multicultural and multi‐disciplinary group. The team is composed of material scientists, physicists, neuroscientists, electronic engineers, computational scientists, biotechnologists and biomedical engineers, sharing their expertise to work at the border of these multiple disciplines.
Responsibilities
The Multifunctional Neural Interfaces Research Unit is coordinated by Prof. Ferruccio Pisanello, who has extensive experience in the development of new photonic and optoelectrical technologies for interfacing with deep brain regions. You will share with the team the main responsibility of developing a new generation of multifunctional neural endoscopes based on a novel type of metasurfaces.
* Support research and technical activity for increasing the technology readiness level (TRL) of the devices and systems developed during the implementation of the PNRR‐related activity (in the context of the projects RAISE and MNESYS).
Required Elements
* A PhD in Physics, Engineering or Biology or equivalent.
* Previous experience in the fabrication and use of multifunctional tapered optical fibers for neural interfaces.
* Previous experience in multiphoton microscopy on brain tissue.
* Coding skills in Python, Matlab and C++.
* Be eligible to be considered as personnel engaged under collaboration and employment contracts (e.g., researchers and collaborators with fixed‐term employment contracts, holders of research fellowships, research grants, or other forms of temporary employment) initiated through investments carried out under the PNRR, in accordance with Article 7, paragraph 1, letter A of Ministerial Decree No. 307 of 18 March 2025 issued by the Ministry of University and Research.
