Job Function: Sustaining Engineer
General Summary of the Purpose of the Position
This position is responsible for supporting the sustainment of product designs, manufacturing processes and equipment utilized in the global manufacture of Natus' medical device products. In this position, the Sustaining Engineer will facilitate, analyze, and sustain our product-manufacturing sites and portfolios, offer solutions toward engineering-related manufacturing concerns, and participate in driving improvements.
Approach and Deployment (What to Do & How to Do It)
* Support the development, sustainment, and improvement of the manufacturing/rework processes, equipment, fixtures, and technology used in the manufacture of Natus products, at Natus-internal and contract manufacturing sites.
* Maintain manufacturing and rework/repair processes and instructions, as applicable, across all Natus manufacturing and contract manufacturing sites.
* Maintain and update equipment designs in response to component obsolescence, improvement, or cost concerns.
* Perform validation on production-site equipment changes for off-the-shelf component changes (such as PC/OS upgrades or automation changes)
* Update equipment-design documentation upon any change.
* Actively participate in engineering change reviews and Sustaining Engineering discussions, and receive production-quality feedback, to collect relevant continuation engineering opportunities from all stakeholders.
* Review product design changes for effects on manufacturing processes, including updating pFMEA and performing process validation activities.
* Utilize production-quality, repair, and customer feedback data to identify product quality and process improvement opportunities.
* Actively participate in improvement projects driving yield and cost improvement.
* Review manufacturing processes and value stream maps for inefficiencies and potential improvement opportunities.
* Support New Product Development team activities which are key to deploying and sustaining effective manufacturing processes to production.
* Represent manufacturing sites' needs (serving as "the Voice of Manufacturing") to provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) feedback to development teams.
* Partner with the Process Development / Sustaining Engineering team to support their development of new processes.
* Support the establishment of manufacturing requirements to be resolved via new processes and value streams.
* Partner with the Design Transfer team to support PFMEA and process validation efforts during the product and process development phase to validate processes and reduce process-related risks prior to transfer to production sites.
* Support post-manufacturing audit improvements and corrective action / preventative action (CAPA) initiatives.
Job Requirements

Minimum education, certification, and experience requirements:
Education:
4-year degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline.
Experience:
Minimum 1 year experience supporting manufacturing, process, or R&D engineering teams as a sustaining or manufacturing engineer.
Preferred experience: sustaining engineering, process engineering, Lean manufacturing, value stream mapping, continuation engineering, and participating in Kaizen events.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of process engineering and engineering change required
* Knowledge of Lean / 6-Sigma principles preferred
Skills & Abilities
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
* Ability to learn new concepts quickly and apply these skills to solve problems
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team with moderate supervision
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
* Languages: Fluent Italian and good level of English
