Overview
The WHS Manager will partner with a site operations team at AMZL Stations to execute company safety policies and ensure compliance with applicable local and regional regulations. By leveraging lean principles and kaizens, this individual will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk in our processes to ensure a safe and healthful working environment for our associates. The Cluster AMZL WHS Manager must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with the Operations Team and influence change through comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis. The WHS Manager must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. This individual will instruct and train Operations Leaders in company safety policies and assist the operations site teams in incorporating our safety standards at their site. The WHS Manager will identify best practices and incorporate these into our standards to continuously improve company safety policies. The WHS Manager will possess excellent safety program knowledge and demonstrate relevant safety, environmental and ergonomic expertise when working with Operations.
Responsibilities
* Lead a WHS & Safety team consisting of Safety Specialists, Safety Coordinators, and Onsite First Aid Associates; create and execute leadership development plans for Safety Associates and communicate safety expectations with regular feedback to ensure core competencies of an Amazon safety professional are met.
* Partner with senior Cluster Operations Managers for WHS and environmental compliance across clusters, facilitating safe operations for stations with a capacity of 40K to 80K unit shipments (BAU) and up to 120K during peak.
* Collaborate with Cluster Operations Managers, Station Managers, and Support Partners from SLP, PXT, and RME; manage blue-badge officers, yellow-badge supervisors, and yard marshal employees; maintain building and process risk assessments and recommend control measures to prevent injuries.
* Maintain audit records and Austin entries for the cluster according to global safety standards and local regulations; identify, scope, and roll out safety improvement projects across the cluster.
* Analyze injury data, Near Misses, and Dragonfly inputs to identify trends and support regional decision-making; drive WHSMS awareness and standardization by correcting non-compliance to standards.
* Lead Site Self-Audits on WHSMS procedures to uphold high standards in legal audits; build partnerships across functions (HR, Facilities, Operations, WHS Peers) to improve safety reporting and CAPA closures.
* Anticipate and mitigate safety hazards during peak periods and scale up safety awareness for new hires; make informed decisions in ambiguous situations and know when to escalate issues.
* Lead a team of WHS employees, communicate team expectations and goals, and provide regular and actionable feedback; focus on reducing attrition and developing employees for promotion.
* Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, assign stretch assignments based on skills and developmental needs, and recognize and reward individual and team successes; balance daily operations with coaching and continuous improvement initiatives.
Basic Qualifications
Science graduate / Diploma in Engineering / Engineering Degree + Safety Diploma from a recognized institute / NEBOSH IGC or Diploma
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of increasing responsibilities in WHS or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications, including pivot tables and chart/graphic development
* Experience in Distribution Center or Manufacturing EHS with a mix of exempt and non-exempt employees at a site of at least 250 people
* Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment
