Develop and maintain expertise in security issues relevant to NATO with a focus on partnerships, MD/ICI areas of interest. Design, prepare and execute Study Periods and/or Short Courses, including developing course materials such as syllabi, instructional guides, case studies, e‑learning content, lecturers’ biographies and learning consolidation tools. Develop and deliver lectures and briefings in accordance with NDC Senior Course syllabus or other required topics. Act as moderator during post‑lecture discussion periods, facilitating engagement and knowledge exchange. Coordinate and host guest lectures, oversee post‑lecture evaluations and contribute to study period reviews. Instruct and brief other faculty members and assist in the assessment of course members. Accompany Senior Course, NRCC and other Course attendees on field studies where possible. Provide academic guidance and mentorship to Senior Course participants, particularly in preparation of study projects and individual papers. Manage the Partnership Real‑Time Information Management and Exchange System (e‑PRIME) as both Editor and Coordinator Editor. Travel may be required for temporary duty assignments within and outside NATO boundaries. Assist with managerial responsibilities such as directing individual research projects and preparing and conducting conferences and seminars. Represent the NATO Defense College in research and public messaging, including lectures, conferences and other engagement activities. Maintain relationships with senior course members, external lecturers and international research institutes.
Essential Qualifications
At least 8 years of relevant professional experience in international security, defence and foreign affairs. Strong knowledge of Middle Eastern and North African societies, socio‑political dynamics, and Islamic religious traditions. Extensive analytical skills and ability to present complex strategic security issues and policy options clearly and concisely. Demonstrated expertise in developing, planning and implementing short courses or academic activities. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet use.
Education Requirements
PhD in International Relations, Political Science, or a related field.
Language Requirements
English or French at SLP 4444 – STANAG 6001. Other official NATO language at SLP 3333 – STANAG 6001. Preferred: Arabic, Farsi, Russian at SLP 2222 – STANAG 6001.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience in universities, think tanks or policy planning. Previous professional experience related to Middle East, Mediterranean and Gulf security.

Must be available to work long hours. Strong networking, communication and negotiation skills. Must acquire a NATO Secret Security Clearance before commencement. Employment Details
