Job Title: Project Network EngineerLocation: Gorgonzola, ItalyThales is a global technology leader providing solutions relied upon for operational advantage in defense, aerospace, and transportation. Our Gorgonzola site hosts the Navigations Air Systems (NAS) domain, focusing on avionics, navigation, and radar systems for civil and military applications. Italy serves as the Group’s Center of Excellence for Navigation Aids products.ResponsibilitiesPlanning and commissioning network-based infrastructures.Collaborating with Network Architects to define complex distributed systems.Supporting configuration of network infrastructure and Thales products for remote control systems.Investigating interoperability issues related to networking in cooperation with project managers, customer service, and other resources.Providing technical support during tender and contract negotiations.Drafting detailed technical tender comments with relevant teams.Performing site surveys and preparing reports for domestic and export projects involving terrestrial navigation systems.Recommending system configurations based on experience and simulations.Providing technical specifications, requesting quotes, and supporting supplier selection in collaboration with procurement.Preparing project-specific design documentation and as-built documentation, with assistance from draftsmen.Addressing on-site technical issues in cooperation with project teams and stakeholders.Required Skills and ExperienceDegree in technical engineering with focus on IT, telecommunications, electrical engineering, or RF propagation.Minimum 4 years of experience in project/system engineering (domestic/export).Strong understanding of network standards (VLAN, Routing, VPNs, DNS, etc.), with Cisco CCNP certification preferred.Experience configuring and installing network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.).Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, SNMP, etc.).Extensive Linux expertise, including desktop and server OS.Programming skills in scripting languages (Python, Perl, Bash) for automation.Experience with network monitoring, diagnostics, and analytics tools.Understanding of regulations and standards such as EN, ICAO, and local standards.Experience with remote control functions using various media (copper, fiber optic, radio, GSM/LTE, satellite).Ability to negotiate with customers and consultants in Airspace Mobility Solutions.Language RequirementsFluent in English, both written and spoken.Additional languages (German, Spanish, French) at a technical level are advantageous.Willingness to travel worldwide, including to critical regions, in accordance with Thales Security protocols.At Thales, we offer career development opportunities across our global locations.
