TXT is looking for a thesis candidate for a three-year thesis project in the field of Industry 4.0 and 5.0 services for companies in the manufacturing sector.

INCREASE Reference Architecture.
Background
The main objective of the project is to create a new Industry 4.0 and 5.0 service offering for companies in the manufacturing sector. The services are focused on the management and extraction of value from production data, leveraging the construction of the Digital Twin of the production process, in order to develop services such as quality prediction, production optimisation with minimisation of downtimes, machinery setup/maintenance and energy costs.
The INCREASE Project aims to offer an integrated, modular and complete system based on cutting-edge technologies such as Digital Twin, Artificial Intelligence, Extended Reality (XR) and others to support SMEs (but not only). This system enables manufacturing companies to exploit the benefits of Industry 5.0 services, while avoiding the need to invest significant resources in understanding and managing these technologies before tangible results are achieved. The main aim is also to help companies move towards operating models that are leaner, predictive and able to adapt to change through the use of innovative digital tools and change management strategies focused on simplifying the adoption of new technologies.
Main activities:
Analysing the state of the art with regard to the Reference Architectures in the manufacturing field that enable the representation/digitisation of a company, from the shopfloor to the decision-making level, enabling secure inter-company communication on demand;
Define and design the Reference Architecture for the INCREASE project that is able to meet the project requirements (i.e., data engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twin, Industry5.0, etc.), generalising them and drawing inspiration from the most recent results coming from the scientific world;
Defining possible implementations (Reference Implementation) considering the most important cloud technologies on the market (i.e., Microsoft, Amazon, Google, etc.) and, above all, the open source world (i.e., Apache, FIWARE, etc.).
Requirements:
Knowledge of software design principles;
Ability to analyse requirements and scientific documents;
Use of modelling tools (UML).
What you are going to learn:
You will know the European reference standards in the manufacturing world for industrial digitisation;
You will be able to design a reference architecture by verticalising on project requirements and the tools available in the open source world and in the catalogue of the main vendors.
Additional skills:
Good knowledge of English (written and spoken), communication and social skills and problem-solving orientation.
