What you will do:
As a member of the AWS Board Core Design & Services team you will own next‑generation server components. You will demonstrate results in the architecture and development of components used in servers, including motherboards, graphics, accelerators, and programmable hardware. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary engineers to design, develop, validate, and launch at large scale. You will provide leadership in the application of new technologies to servers in a continuous effort to deliver and improve a world‑class customer experience. This is a fast‑paced, intellectually challenging position that requires high standards for yourself and everyone you work with. You will constantly look for ways to improve performance, quality, and cost. A day in the life:
Hardware engineers within the AWS Board Core Design & Services team work in a variety of areas, such as hardware design and development, building systems that validate hardware quality in manufacturing, monitoring and improving hardware reliability in data centers, and overseeing embedded software and systems that operate and monitor it. We encourage durable solutions that look around corners while taking into consideration cost, performance, and reliability.
About the team:
Our organization is responsible for system innovation in the servers used by all of Amazon Web Services. Beyond product delivery we actively manage the fleet of servers in the data center that continually grows. This means tracking key business and operational metrics to ensure smooth operation and minimize or eliminate customer impact from device‑related issues for a transparent AWS customer experience.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
5+ years of hardware engineering experience
Experience collaborating with the ECAD/physical board designer and ability to review PCB designs with Allegro, CAM350, or equivalent
Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
7+ years of experience with I2C, SPI, UART interfaces
Experience interfacing with thermal, mechanical, firmware, and software teams during product development
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
Experience in motherboard design, PCB design including schematic capture, stackup, and circuit board layout
Experience in server technologies such as thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity
Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submissions
Experience identifying and resolving complex issues
Experience in component selection and understanding of component reliability
Experience designing and developing large‑scale services
Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
10+ years of experience in server design for cloud or enterprise applications
Experience designing for reuse across multiple products
Strong organizational and planning skills
Desire to work in a fast‑paced environment
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience with the management of technical programs a plus

Compensation: Base pay ranges from $143,300/year in the lowest geographic market to $257,300/year in the highest. Pay is based on factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
