Natural Habitat Adventures is currently seeking experienced Expedition Leaders to guide departures of Tuscany: La Dolce Vita, part of our Terra & Tu Cultural Journeys collection.
Our Local Guides are exceptional ambassadors for the places we visit. They are experienced professionals with deep connections to their region, bringing valuable local knowledge, cultural insight and guiding expertise to every journey. Working closely with the Expedition Leader, they help lead and execute each trip while ensuring a seamless, engaging and memorable experience for our guests.
Through their firsthand understanding of local landscapes, wildlife, culture and communities, our Local Guides enrich the journey with authentic perspectives and meaningful interpretation. They share stories, traditions and regional knowledge that deepen guests' connection to the destination, while also supporting safe operations, attentive service and smooth daily logistics.
Together with the Expedition Leader, our Local Guides play a vital role in delivering the high standard of professionalism, hospitality and conservation-focused travel that defines the Natural Habitat Adventures experience.
Our preference is to hire Local guides who are from the regions we travel to. Please note that only Italian citizens with a valid Italian tour guide license will be considered for this role.
TIME & SEASONALITY
This is a contract position with trip dates throughout May, June and August.
Guiding hours generally cover the morning activities through lunch, varying slightly depending on the daily schedule.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the Local Day Guide for the morning activities on Days 2–5 of Terra & Tu's Tuscany's Cultural Journey.
- Share expert knowledge of Italy's national history, culinary and wine heritage, and political landscape.
- Bring Tuscany's art, architecture, history and traditions vividly to life through thoughtful interpretation.
- Work closely with the Terra & Tu Expedition Leader to ensure seamless daily operations and a cohesive guest experience.
- Deliver compelling commentary and site interpretation that enhances the overall journey.
- Ensure guests enjoy a true \"once-in-a-lifetime\" experience by proactively managing expectations and anticipating their circle of needs.
- Assist in emergency situations as directed by the Expedition Leader.
- Communicate directly with the office and operations staff regarding scheduling and administrative needs.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading cultural day tours (experience with North American travelers strongly preferred), or a bachelor's degree in history, art history, cultural studies, tourism or a relevant related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for Tuscan history, art, architecture, gastronomy and regional traditions.
- Excellent guest service, interpretation and public speaking skills.
- Proven leadership abilities with a strong track record of professionalism, responsibility and sound judgment.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Own reliable means of transportation to and from daily activities.
- Valid Italian guide license (abilitazione nazionale all'esercizio della professione di guida turistica).
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This is a location-based, independent contractor role receiving a competitive daily rate, commensurate with experience, plus gratuities in accordance with Italian labor laws.
Nat Hab provides branded gear and lunches on days worked.
