Job Title: Train Cost EngineerPurpose of the JobTo Animate the Design to Cost within Tender and ProjectTo set up priorities and clear guidance to the development teams to achieve the cost objectivesTo coordinate the Design to Cost resources to deliver the relevant expertise to the Tender & ProjectsOrganisation Reporting: To adapt site by site, but the recommendation by order of preference is Engineering Dpt, Costing Dpt, Tender & Project DptNetwork & LinksRef Lib, Tender or Project team members / Sub-system managerBid Cost Manager / Project Controller / Competitiveness ManagerTrain Cost Leader / AnalystLead Engineer and DesignerDesign to cost NetworkIndustrial teamSourcing teamMissionAccuracy of the cost calculation versus technical product definitionRespect of time commitments & DFQ cycle requirementsCapability to supply rational analysis & deliverables based on factual cost data & figuresCapacity to stimulate the work and maintain cohesion between participantsSaving potentials transformationResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:Agree the Design to Cost Roadmap with the Tender or Project Core Team, the related budget and report on itCoordinate the whole Design to Cost studies and metiers to meet the agreed objectivesInsure the transformation of the listed opportunities into validated cost reduction versus base lineBe the "voice" of the Design to Cost in the Tender or Project team, insure and organize regular Steering Committees to report on the progressesDetailled responsibilities:Animate the Design to Cost by applying the Dt C tools and methodologiesCalculate & Regularly update the "Cost by Unit in Dev" of the Train by IBS & Sub-SystemsDefine & agree the Recurring "Cost per Unit" target of the Train by IBS & Sub-Systems while getting the adhesion of the project stakeholdersCoordinate the Costing resources & expertiseBase on the Benchmark, Dt C expertise & targets versus the Recurring Cost to Date of the train, highlight the main cost stakes and propose Priorities to the Tender or Project stakeholders.Listen to the Tender or Project team needs of Business Cases, adapt and agree the priorities with the Tender or Project core teamDefine the Design to Cost roadmap & Design to Cost Deliverables regarding the Priorities defined and the DFQ cycleMake sure the Design to Cost deliverables are delivered according to the DFQ cycle & Roadmap agreedOrganize creative / brainstorming session (no taboo – openness – result oriented) to transform into validated savings, the Design to Cost potentials which have been identified by the Dt C AnalysisEstablish the synthesis report, follow Dt C KPIs and the evolution of the total "Cost by Unit" at Train & Sub-System levelOrganizer regular Dt C Steering Committees to report it and ask the core team for go / no go ArbitrationsThe Scope of work is limited to Recurring Production Cost (Material + Assembly hours of the Train and Sub-Systems) even if NRC are taken in consideration when meaningful in the Business CasesAccountabilitiesBased on the Deliverables issued by the Train Cost Leader & the expertise of the Design to Cost team:Validate the train Cost per Unit in DevPropose and Agree the Train Target Cost per Unit together with the project team at Train and Sub-System levelPut the Target Cost and other Dt C Targets in a Dt C TRS and insure their diffusion to the project stakeholdersBased on the Design to Cost process:Put in place a Dt C governance with the métiers and with the project teams such as steering committees, KPIs & follow-up meetingPut in place the relevant deliverables to monitor the Design to Cost key success factors (such as Cost Calculation Note, Cost and Saving tracking, KPIs ...)Build the dashboard to show it to the Tender or Project teamBased on the priorisation issued by the Train Cost Leader analysis & cost follow-up:Deliver and update at least monthly to the Tender or Project team the main cost stakes to be addressedPropose for each of them the relevant action plan using the Design to Cost processes, tools & expertiseParticipate to those action plans and insure the transformation of the identified potential into validated savingsCommunication:Ensure the alignment with the product definition and put in place a close and fruitful communication with and between all the Design to Cost and Core Team métiersMake sure their requirements are considered and that Dt C results are known and circulatedKnowledge & ExperienceMandatoryGood product knowledgeGood Product Competitiveness knowledgeGood industrial Process knowledgeCuriousOpen-mindednessRigorousGood communication with other peopleEnglish Speaker
