To ensure a smooth application process and timely completion of all required documentation, we recommend applying as early as possible.

We are looking for a Launch System Safety Engineer (Development & Qualification) to complete our consultants Workforce Management Service to support the Operational Launch System Safety Office of the European Space Agency (ESA) at their location in Frascati, Italy .

The purpose of the Safety Operational Office for Flight Programmes is to support Launcher and launch Systems development and interfacing with other Space Transportation (STS) Departments and ESA Directorates on demand .

As a Launch System Safety Engineer, you will support ESA's Space Transportation Programmes (VegaC, VegaE, Space Rider) across preliminary design, development, and qualification phases.

You will contribute to safety requirements, hazard analyses, and regulatory compliance activities in coordination with ESA project teams and CNES/CSG authorities.

The selected candidate may additionally be appointed to the role of Service Manager, subject to relevant experience and operational needs.

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries).

Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at the interview stage).

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

Safety Requirements & Programme Documentation

Develop, update, and maintain highlevel safety documents, including Safety Requirements, Safety Development Plans, Space Debris Mitigation Plans, and Safety Reporting documents, ensuring alignment with ESA programme milestones (PRR, PDR, CDR).

Ensure periodic safety reporting, tracking risks, critical items, deviations, and required updates in accordance with Safety Development Plans.
Translate systemlevel needs into actionable safety requirements for launchers, orbital vehicles, payloads, and ground infrastructures.

Safety Submission Files & Certification Support

Prepare and maintain Safety Submission Files (Phases 1, 2, and 3) as required under FSOA/REI, ensuring timely delivery of safety documentation that demonstrates full compliance at each programme stage.

Coordinate with CNES/CSG counterparts to verify closure of safety recommendations, open actions, and alignment with regulatory expectations.
Provide detailed inputs for qualification dossiers that support launch readiness reviews (QR, FQR, OQR).

System Risk Analysis & Hazard Assessment

Conduct detailed systemlevel safety analyses, including Hazard Analyses, FMECA, FaultTree Analyses, and interface hazard evaluations.

Perform ARO (Analyse de Risques en Opérations) risk studies covering all ground and preflight operations (mechanical integration, fluids handling, control bench/VMC operations, transport, countdown activities).

Identify riskreduction measures and follow up their implementation with engineering teams and industrial partners.

Development & Qualification Support

Support ESA's participation in major design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, QR), ensuring safety compliance is demonstrated convincingly and consistently.
Assess the completeness of subsystem and componentlevel safety deliverables produced by industrial primes.
Evaluate waivers, deviations, and nonconformances from a safety perspective and ensure appropriate justification and mitigations.

Please ensure that your CV clearly explains how you meet the mandatory requirements. If it doesn't align completely with the essential criteria, it could result in rejection.

Master Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Safety Engineering, or equivalent;
At least 4 years of relevant working experience in the domain of the position;
Strong experience in space system safety engineering, RAMS, hazard analysis;
Knowledge of FSOA, REI, and European space safety regulatory frameworks;
Excellent documentation and review skills;
Comfortable interacting with industry primes and institutional partners;
Experience in service coordination or the potential to assume Service Manager duties will be considered an asset;
Candidates must be willing and able to travel to CSG/Korou, French Guiana;
Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU;

Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Fluency in French, both written and spoken, is an asset.
