Purpose of the job
As a Gate Manager, the selected candidate will lead the operational and organizational aspects of the Gate Area.
They will interface and control the activity of GATE IN/OUT as per gate clerks dedicated to, as well as the ISPS.
Under the Operations Director supervision, he/she will be in charge of the RORO, Container and General Cargo gate activities management.
They will supervise the Gate Coordinator (daily shift) and Gate operators (Shift).
They will work on a daily shift but, as per business requirements, may happen to work on night shift following the 24/7 terminal operations.
Summary of responsibilities:
The Gate Manager:
is responsible for taking decisions aimed at the smooth and highly productive rendition of the gate-in and gate-out operations, by also limiting time loss and by studying the possible improvements
is responsible for planning operations resources
manages shifts and holidays, and makes decisions to remedy absences (such as no-shows, illness, strikes or holidays)
organizes continuous training for the department employees
identifies clearly tasks and goals
sets priorities, plans and executes daily tasks efficiently
ensures the Gates operations continuity
ensures the business continuity at the Terminal Gates on a 24/7 base. Answer to Duty Phone and is available to support Gates operations at any time
ensures the integrity of the cargo inside the terminal by physical check and follow system instruction
ensures that 100% of the cargo is registered at the gate in the gate system
supports the strategy of the Terminal on Gate activities
tracks and monitors gate operations for all terminal operations: container/ RORO and General Cargo
tracks and monitors all exchanges with external depots and ICD
delivers Gate KPIs for management reporting
measures and reports on gate operational performance and develop plans to improve relevant key performance indicators, raising alerts when necessary escalating to management
improves existing operational processes to achieve the customer's expectations
sets standards and procedures for external supplier (c.g. SDN) and monitor their performance
manages the emergencies as per internal plan of safety
controls and coordinates IMO classified cargoes in respect of internal procedures
checks and controls instructions received in relation to reefer cargo
sets and monitors the KPI reporting to evaluate the gate performances
Customer Oriented
follows the CEO strategy and COO/ terminal operations guidelines
acts as a single point of contact with terminal stakeholders for Gate operations: trucking companies, truck drivers, ICD managers, Fernetti manager, GdF/ Customs, Dozvola, Shipping Lines, representatives, etc.
cooperates with shipping companies and their agents, customs agents, port authority to ensure that their operational requirements are met
defines, maintains and optimizes the trucks management with trucking companies and their truck drivers
Gate projects
supports the Gate Operating System (GOS) Implementation with the GOS project manager. Acts as a single point of contact for the project for IT, project management and technical team
logs and maintains the gate systems Knowledge Error Database updated and ensures that the gate operators are continuously updated on the last updates
projects implementation for future terminal developments
Gate project owner/manager for new developments of the actual configuration and for the future features of the new gates
QHSE
enhances Quality, Health, Safety, & Environment policies & procedures to meet international standards and provide a safe working environment for all employees
sets up processes by following the global operational standards and shareholders' instructions
ensures consistency of security standards.
Education & Experience
Strong understanding of logistics stakes
University degree in logistics, maritime and port, or process/industrial engineering. Related business studies are desirable.
Management experience
Preferable experience in container shipping industry end-to-end and be able to relate with shipping company and other associated industry managers is preferred
The experience in handling technical issues and negotiations with third parties is desirable.

Maintenance/IT for any repairs and needs required to have all hardware/software/equipment/structure/furniture and other items working as requested

Trucking companies and truck drivers
Delegates of Port Authority assigned in Terminal
Autorità Marittima/polizia di Frontiera relate for the ISPS
ADM/GdF, related for the commercial issues
Customs/ Guarda Di Finanza assigned in Terminal

Language Requirements
Fluent spoken and written English is a must
Other Requirements
Valid EU work permit
Willing to relocate to Trieste on short notice
