Material Handling Expert, a part of the Automation Team

- Teverola, Italy
- Salary: up to 3200 EUR net per month

We are seeking an experienced Material Handling Expert to join our client, an established Battery company in Italy. In this role, you will be ensuring high-efficiency, safe, and automated movement of materials across the LFP battery production line. This role uses cross-functional collaboration, analytical capability, technical expertise, and continuous improvement skills to support stable, high-throughput manufacturing operations.\n

This role typically involves working in a factory or industrial setting with a combination of office work (for design or programming) and hands‑on activities (maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing in the field).

Responsibilities

- Technical Expertise in Material Handling
- Design and optimize automated material flow systems for powders, electrodes, cells, and modules.
- Apply knowledge of conveyors, AGVs/AMRs, robotic handling, hoists, and storage systems.
- Interpret mechanical and automation drawings, P&IDs;, and layout diagrams.
- Integrate handling systems with automation platforms (PLC, SCADA, MES/WMS).
- Automation Integration & Systems Thinking
- Understand end‑to‑end production processes and align material handling with takt time.
- Collaborate with automation engineers on sensors, logic, communication protocols, and robotic interfaces.
- Ensure that material handling solutions support digital traceability and data integrity.
- Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and root cause methodologies to improve flow efficiency.
- Identify waste (motion, delay, over-processing, inventory imbalance) and propose solutions.
- Conduct time‑motion studies, buffer analysis, and ergonomic assessments.
- Problem Solving & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose issues in conveyors, robots, AGVs, and automated transfer systems quickly and effectively.
- Perform structured RCA (e.g., 5 Why, Fishbone, FMEA).
- Implement both temporary countermeasures and robust long‑term solutions.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with industrial safety standards, chemical handling rules, and machine safety regulations.
- Conduct risk analyses (FMEA, HAZOP) and implement mitigation strategies.
- Champion safe material movement practices.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work with logistics, warehouse, quality, maintenance, production, and process teams.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both engineers and operators.
- Support training, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
- Project Management
- Lead equipment development projects‑including specification, vendor evaluation, FAT/SAT, installation, and ramp‑up.
- Manage timelines, priorities, and vendor deliverables.
- Coordinate actions during line changes, scale‑up, and new product introduction (NPI).
- Data‑Driven Decision Making
- Use KPIs, sensors, line data, and analytics to guide improvements.
- Apply simulations or digital tools to validate proposed changes.
- Establish data collection plans for material flow systems.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automation, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
- 5–8 years of relevant experience in automated material handling or high‑volume manufacturing.
- Proficiency in mechanical/automation integration, flow optimization, and equipment troubleshooting.
- Experience with lithium‑ion or LFP battery manufacturing (preferred)
- Experience with AGVs/AMRs, robotic palletizing, automated storage systems (preferred)
- Certifications in Lean/Six Sigma or project management (preferred)
- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems that involve both hardware and software.
- Ability to communicate effectively with cross‑functional teams, including engineers, operators, and management.
- Practical experience with automated production systems, manufacturing processes, and industrial machinery in Lithium Battery is often preferred.
