Organizational Setting

The project objective is to contribute to the national processes of strengthening family farmers in Brazil for poverty reduction and rural revitalization. The outcome is to implement differentiated policies and programs that improve the capacities of the national government, local and family farmers in areas such as ATER (rural extension and technical advisory services), Credit Programs, land access and governance, access to markets and the strengthening of cooperativism.
Reporting Lines
The incumbent reports to the Assistant Representative in FAO Brazil – Programme.
Technical Focus
Collect data, carry out analytical work and structured consolidation of data on violence and new emerging conflicts in the countryside, waters and forests, with a focus on the phenomena of environmental disasters, impacts of REDD contracts (reduction of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation) and the carbon market on the livelihoods and productive arrangements of family farmers and traditional peoples and communities, the use of pesticides in the context of agrarian conflicts, the impacts of wind and mining projects on livelihoods, productive arrangements of family farmers and traditional peoples and communities, and the increase in violence in the countryside.
Tasks and Responsibilities
• Conduct bibliographic research and data and information surveys;
• Prepare reports and data sheets, in a format to be specified, relevant to the activities of this call;
• To define, together with the supervision of theassignment, which states should be selected as the object of analysis in each of the geographic regions;
• Participate in meetings with representatives of organizations or movements whose cases of violence are monitored by DEMCA;
• Present the partial and final results of the products, upon demand of DEMCA/MDA and provide the requested information and clarifications;
• Participate in workshops and meetings relevant to the elaboration of the consulting products, upon demand of DEMCA/GM/MDA;
• Subsidize and monitor the actions developed on the subject of consulting with the agencies involved;
• Provide the MDA with information and parameters regarding the topic pertinent to this call;
• Carry out systematization of events on the subject of consulting; and
• Prepare the Work Plan and the Products as established in this call.
• Analyze the progress of Bills in the National Congress and government programs related to agroecology.
• Elaborate presentations, reporting and technical documents related to goods
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING:
• University degree in Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Human Sciences or Applied Social Sciences, according to the CAPES table of areas of knowledge.
• Minimum professional experience of 08 (eight) years with traditional communities and peoples, family farming and experience with environmental work.
• Working knowledge of English and Portuguese;
• National of Brazil or resident of the country with valid work permit
FAO Core Competencies
Technical/Functional Skills
• Experience in popular education methodology or work with social movements in the countryside, forest and/or waters; Participation in studies on human rights, peasant conflicts, peasant struggles or implementation of public policies for family farming; Professional experience with environmental issues.
• Specialization, master's or doctorate.
