The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. This position is located in the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy within the 3R (Return, Refurbishment, Reuse) Program Team of the Supply Chain Service. The Logistics Officer reports to the Chief, Supply Chain Service.
Responsibilities
* Lead the 3R (Return, Refurbish, Reuse) project, from the initial acceptance of equipment to the final inspection and acceptance of the equipment by the receiving Mission.
* Review and analyze technical inspection reports and the related costs of refurbishment.
* Draft Scopes of Work (SOWs) for out-sourcing services/spare parts for the refurbishment of equipment.
* Draft work plan based on the equipment, types of refurbishments required, and timelines; monitors and updates progress of each piece of equipment being refurbished and takes action to mitigate risks or delays.
* Provide effective and timely planning, oversight, management and coordination of logistics support operations.
* Integrate and monitor the implementation of logistics support plans at assigned field missions or service center.
* Develop policy and procedures documentation for DOS field logistics support.
* Liaise between field missions and Headquarters staff on logistics matters and coordinate day-to-day support of logistics operations.
* Plan and co-ordinate logistics support to new, sustaining, expanding, contracting and liquidating peacekeeping operations and other field missions and other peacekeeping operations.
* Manage logistics field operations.
* Ensure that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs.
* Develop plans and procedures for assessing material, staff, troops and their movements, planning and costing of operational budgets.
* Assume responsibilities of certifying officer.
* Mentor new/junior officers.
* Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or other relevant field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven (07) years of progressively responsible experience in surface and/or air transport, logistics operations in military, commercial or international organizations, or related area is required. Experience working in support of a field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping operations, special political missions, agencies, funds and programmes), or other similar international organizations is desirable. Experience in asset management is desirable. Experience in reverse logistics is desirable.
Languages
Required Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. The table below shows the minimum required level for each skill in these languages, according to the UN Language Framework (please consult for details).

Special Notice
This position is open for recruitment for an initial period of one year with possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds. The position is financed by extra-Budgetary funds. The appointment and renewal thereof are subject to the availability of the post or funds, budgetary approval or extension of the mandate. Candidate selected for this position will be granted a fixed-term appointment limited ("FTA limited") in accordance with section 2.2 (b) of administrative instruction ST/AI/2013/1 on Administration of fixed-term appointments. Renewal of appointment is contingent upon continued existence of mandate and availability of funding. If this position is discontinued, the incumbent will be separated from service. United Nations Secretariat staff members who are defined as internal candidates will be reassigned or transferred to the position without a lien to their parent position.
