Key Responsibilities
Project engineering and technical solutions
- Analyze client specifications and needs, perform project studies, and size vacuum automation solutions (including vacuum sizing calculations).
- Select and implement appropriate technical solutions, including components and options, to meet client performance and application requirements.
- Conduct tests on client samples to validate proposed solutions and document test results in clear technical reports.
- Apply relevant standards and select design methods aligned with specifications, ensuring safety, quality, and reliability.
Project and business management
- Manage projects from quotation to delivery, ensuring scope, cost, and timing are respected.
- Coordinate the transmission of technical information with the Design Office and other internal stakeholders.
- Plan and monitor production activities in the manufacturing workshop related to your projects.
- Track offers, opportunities, and project status, ensuring accurate follow‑up and timely responses to customers and field sales.
- Lead technical and project review meetings, both internally and with customers.
Collaboration and stakeholder management
- Work based on information and priorities provided by the Business Development Director.
- Provide technical support to field sales representatives across Europe.
- Collaborate closely with internal departments (Design Office, Operations Service, Sales Administration, Finance Department, Manufacturing Workshop).
- Coordinate with other Project Engineers / Business Managers in European subsidiaries to share best practices and harmonize approaches.
- Interact with suppliers for technical solution investigations and pricing inquiries when needed.
Business development and innovation
- Support prospecting of new markets and applications in line with Piab’s strategic direction.
- Contribute to the development of new products and solutions arising from customer projects (design, testing, technical support for industrialization).
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in processes, tools, and offerings.
Technical skills
- Basic knowledge of CAD software (2D and 3D); experience in 2D/3D design, developing solutions from specifications, and creating detailed and assembly plans is a plus.
- Proficiency in English and Italian, both written and spoken; additional European languages are an advantage.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: project and business management, continuous improvement, robotics, material handling, or product development.
- Ability to perform vacuum sizing calculations and define technical solutions that meet client requirements.
- Competence in tracking offers, drafting test reports, and preparing documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to lead technical meetings and present solutions convincingly to customers and colleagues.
- Strong interpersonal skills and team spirit; collaborative mindset and willingness to share knowledge.
- Methodical, structured approach with strong analytical and synthetic thinking.
- Creativity in solving complex technical and application challenges.
- High degree of autonomy, ownership, and accountability for project outcomes.
- Good communication skills, able to adapt messages to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Professional knowledge
- Solid general knowledge in mechanics and automation.
- Understanding of industrial automation environments (e.g., robotics, material handling, packaging) is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and quality/safety standards.
Experience and Education
- Technical training from Bac+2 (BTS or equivalent) to Bac+5 (engineering degree) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field.
- Experience in a project engineer, application engineer, technical sales, or business manager role in an industrial/automation environment is highly valued.
- Experience with vacuum technology, robotics, or automated material handling systems is an advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office and basic CAD tools; experience with 3D modeling software is a plus.
