Organizational Setting
International Consultants (COF.REG)/Subscribers to Personal Services Agreements (PSA.SBS) represent an important source of expertise for FAO, making their specialist contributions across the globe towards the achievement of the Organization’s strategic objectives. The FAO Fisheries Division (NFI) promotes policies and strategies aiming at sustainable and responsible development of fisheries and aquaculture in inland and marine waters.
Reporting Lines
The COF.REG/PSA.SBS will work under the overall supervision of the Senior Fishery Officer / Team Leader of NFIFO and the direct supervision of a technical officer of NFIFO.
Technical Focus
NFIFO's work includes the implementation of various projects. The team is currently seeking incumbents to assist in the implementation of fishing operations-related activities at national and regional levels with the following technical expertise:
* Law of the Sea experts on fishing regulations and environmental law.
* Fishing gear technology experts.
* Gear marking experts.
* Waste management experts focusing on plastic litter.
* Fisheries infrastructure engineers and architects.
* Naval architects and boat builders.
* Occupational safety and health experts.
* Remote sensing and GIS specialists.
* Fisheries economists.
* Data analysts.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The tasks and responsibilities of each selected COF.REG or PSA.SBS will be defined in the Terms of Reference for the specific assignment. Generally, they will include:
* Support project formulation in accordance with FAO’s Strategic Framework.
* Carry out coordination, implementation, and administration of assigned activities.
* Provide substantive technical inputs to relevant activities and projects.
* Collect, manage, and analyze data.
* Perform outreach and communication-related activities.
* Any other duties related to NFIFO’s areas of work.
Candidates Will Be Assessed Against the Following
* University degree in relevant fields.
* Relevant experience in fishing operations and vessel design.
* Working knowledge of English.
FAO Core Competencies
* Work experience in multiple locations, particularly in developing countries is desirable.
* Experience providing technical advice at various levels.
* Knowledge in implementing international instruments related to fisheries.
