Director, Wärtsilä Marine Marketing and Communications

Wärtsilä is seeking a strategic, inspiring, and partnership-driven leader for the position of Director, Marine Marketing and Communications.
As a member of the Management Teams, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Wärtsilä’s Marine business while also contributing to the evolution of Wärtsilä’s Marketing and Communications function. You are reporting to the Vice President, Sales, Marine, with a matrix reporting line to the Executive Vice President, Marketing and Communications.
The preferred location for this position is Helsinki, Finland, but other main Wärtsilä office locations in Europe can also be considered.
Key responsibilities:
1. Develop and execute Wärtsilä Marine’s global marketing and communications strategy, leveraging our role as a thought and technology leader in maritime decarbonisation.
2. Drive customer-centric content and messaging that demonstrates our leading position in fuel flexibility and alternative fuels, energy efficiency, electrification, carbon capture, and voyage optimisation.
3. Lead demand generation initiatives and ensure sales enablement for our cutting-edge Marine solutions and services, driving commercial success across customer segments.
4. Leverage market intelligence, customer insights, industry trends, and competitor activities to inform strategy, drive thought leadership, and unlock new opportunities for growth.
5. Play an active role in the commercialisation, harmonisation, and differentiation of our offerings and service levels.
6. Build an impactful and efficient event strategy that leverages Wärtsilä’s strong position to create meaningful customer engagement opportunities and strengthen relationships.
7. Champion integrated, omnichannel, and data-driven marketing campaigns, adopting innovative tools and metrics to measure impact and continuously improve performance.
8. Lead, inspire, and mentor a value-creating and high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
9. Advise the Marine Management Team, contributing marketing expertise to overall business strategy and decision-making.
10. Partner across Marine business units and teams to align marketing initiatives with business priorities and demonstrate the impact and value of marketing and communications. Build an effective business partnership model.
11. Foster close collaboration across Wärtsilä through a matrix structure, amplifying synergies and best practices in marketing, communications, and branding.
12. Oversee the Marine Marketing budget and forecasts, and build a measurement framework in collaboration with other Marketing and Communications leadership team colleagues.
Qualifications and experience:
13. Passion for decarbonisation, innovation, and the future of the marine industry.
14. Proven strategic marketing and communications leadership experience in B2B, preferably within the marine or a related industry.
15. Experience in leading marketing transformation and building brand equity on a global scale.
16. Demonstrated hands-on, can-do attitude with a track record of successfully driving projects from concept to execution in a global environment, with measurable business impact.
17. Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of a matrix organisation.
18. Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to lead diverse teams.
19. Strong analytical mindset and proficiency in leveraging data and digital tools for decision-making and performance measurement.
20. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages are considered an asset.
21. Relevant academic degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field.
