As a Gate Manager, the selected candidate will lead the operational and organizational aspects of the Gate Area.

\n

They will interface and control the activity of GATE IN/OUT as per gate clerks dedicated to, as well as the ISPS.

\n

Under the Operations Director supervision, he/she will be in charge of the RORO, Container and General Cargo gate activities management.

\n

They will supervise the Gate Coordinator (daily shift) and Gate operators (Shift). They will work on a daily shift but, as per business requirements, may happen to work on night shift following the 24/7 terminal operations.

\n

Summary of responsibilities

\n

\n
- Responsible for taking decisions aimed at the smooth and highly productive rendition of the gate-in and gate-out operations, by also limiting time loss and studying possible improvements.
\n
- Responsible for planning operations resources.
\n
- Manages shifts and holidays, and makes decisions to remedy absences (such as no-shows, illness, strikes or holidays).
\n
- Organizes continuous training for the department employees.
\n
- Identifies tasks and goals clearly.
\n
- Sets priorities, plans and executes daily tasks efficiently.
\n
- Ensures gates operations continuity.
\n
- Ensures business continuity at the Terminal Gates on a 24/7 base. Answers to Duty Phone and is available to support Gates operations at any time.
\n
- Ensures the integrity of the cargo inside the terminal by physical check and following system instructions.
\n
- Ensures that 100% of the cargo is registered at the gate in the gate system.
\n
- Supports the strategy of the Terminal on Gate activities.
\n
- Tracks and monitors gate operations for all terminal operations: container/ RORO and General Cargo.
\n
- Tracks and monitors all exchanges with external depots and ICD.
\n
- Delivers Gate KPIs for management reporting.
\n
- Measures and reports on gate operational performance and develops plans to improve relevant key performance indicators, raising alerts when necessary and escalating to management.
\n
- Improves existing operational processes to achieve the customer’s expectations.
\n
- Sets standards and procedures for external suppliers (e.g. SDN) and monitors their performance.
\n
- Manages emergencies as per internal safety plan.
\n
- Controls and coordinates IMO classified cargoes in respect of internal procedures.
\n
- Checks and controls instructions received in relation to reefer cargo.
\n
- Sets and monitors KPI reporting to evaluate gate performances.
\n

Customer Oriented

\n\n
- Follows the CEO strategy and COO/terminal operations guidelines.
\n
- Acts as a single point of contact with terminal stakeholders for Gate operations: trucking companies, truck drivers, ICD managers, Fernetti manager, GdF/ Customs, Dozvola, Shipping Lines, representatives, etc.
\n
- Cooperates with shipping companies and their agents, customs agents, port authority to ensure that their operational requirements are met.
\n
- Defines, maintains and optimizes truck management with trucking companies and their truck drivers.
\n

\n

Gate projects

\n\n
- Supports the Gate Operating System (GOS) Implementation with the GOS project manager. Acts as a single point of contact for the project for IT, project management and technical team.
\n
- Logs and maintains the gate systems Knowledge Error Database updated and ensures that gate operators are continuously updated on the latest updates.
\n
- Projects implementation for future terminal developments.
\n
- Gate project owner/manager for new developments of the actual configuration and for the future features of the new gates.
\n

QHSE

\n\n
- Enhances Quality, Health, Safety & Environment policies & procedures to meet international standards and provide a safe working environment for all employees.
\n
- Sets up processes by following the global operational standards and shareholders’ instructions.
\n
- Ensures consistency of security standards.
\n

\n

The Candidate

\n

Education & Experience

\n\n
- Strong understanding of logistics stakes.
\n
- University degree in logistics, maritime and port, or process/industrial engineering. Related business studies are desirable.
\n
- Preferable experience in container shipping industry end-to-end and ability to relate with shipping company and other associated industry managers.
\n
- Experience in handling technical issues and negotiations with third parties is desirable.
\n

Technical Skills & Knowledge Required

- ISPS and Safety knowledge.
\n
- IMDG knowledge.
\n
- Experience in business SOP/KPI.
\n
- Basic Excel knowledge.
\n
- Lean management knowledge and leadership.
\n
- Effective Negotiation Skills.
\n
