Job Overview
We are looking for a Radar System Engineer to join our team at Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%). With over 40 years of experience in high‑tech solutions for telecommunications, navigation, Earth Observation, environmental management, exploration, science and orbital infrastructure, we provide innovative space technologies to a wide range of customers.
Responsibilities
* The Radar Architect covers the definition of RF Payload and Digital Equipment Section.
* Perform evaluation of radar input requirements and support the engineering analysis team on architecture and hardware/software design.
* Trade‑off radar instrument solutions, defining architectures and sub‑systems (antenna, RF section, digital section), and focus on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) digital section, command & control, timing, FDIR, and onboard processing.
* Define radar subsystem/units requirements, providing functional decomposition and performance needs for Digital, RF, and SW sections.
* Participate in design reviews at all levels and contribute to requirement traceability and maintenance.
* Support the Radar System Engineering Manager with requirements, performance, and budget evaluation.
* Contribute to definition and maintenance of radar payload budgets.
* Develop software tools (e.g., MATLAB, Excel) to support design and verification phases.
* Evaluate test results and participate in test campaigns at instrument, assembly, equipment, and unit level.
* Attend meetings with the Radar Instrument design team, external contractors, and customers.
* Prepare documentation and hand‑outs.
Qualifications
* Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Remote Sensing Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, or Electronics Engineering.
* Background in hardware design for RF and digital electronics, with experience in simulations and analysis.
* Strong knowledge of antenna and RF design (distinctive).
* Proficiency with MATLAB and MS Office products.
* Intermediate or higher English language (written and verbal).
* Team‑work oriented attitude.
