IntroductionWork where othersspend their vacation.Join our team – your next opportunity starts here.About the roleAs a Project Engineer in Nuclear Waste Management, you will support on‐site activities at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, contributing to projects related to the characterisation, treatment and conditioning of radioactive waste within nuclear decommissioning programmes.Working directly at the JRC site, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists and nuclear specialists, supporting operational activities and helping to develop safe, compliant and efficient waste management solutions in accordance with European nuclear regulations.Your Tasks:
Reviewing technical proposals, project plans and operational concepts to support project executionCollecting and analysing project and radiological data to prepare status reports and recommendations for next stepsSupporting and supervising waste management operations in controlled and classified areasCoordinating waste logistics and storage activities, including incoming, outgoing and internal waste movementsDocumenting waste packages and disposal containers according to radiological and material specificationsContributing to the characterisation, sorting and pre‐treatment of historical radioactive wasteDeveloping concepts for the treatment and conditioning of radioactive waste in accordance with international waste acceptance criteriaSupporting investigations and treatment solutions for sludges, contaminated liquids and legacy waste streamsAssisting with the remediation of contaminated areas and waste tracking within internal databases
Your Profile:
MSc in Nuclear Engineering, Radiation Protection, Nuclear Physics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical/scientific discipline3–5 years of professional experience in the nuclear sector, preferably in waste management, radiation protection or decommissioningSolid understanding of radiation protection principles and nuclear waste management practicesFamiliarity with European nuclear waste regulations and interest in Italian regulatory frameworksExperience with radiological characterisation methods, ideally including gamma spectrometryStrong analytical and data‐driven approachFluent English and Italian (spoken and written)Very good knowledge of Italian is strongly preferredExcellent communication skills and ability to work in international and multidisciplinary project teamsStrong MS Office skillsOpen to join new upcoming projects on sit
Nice to Have:
Additional experience in nuclear waste processing, treatment or decommissioning projectsKnowledge of mechanical or electrical maintenance in nuclear facilitiesExperience with PLC programmingFamiliarity with 2D/3D modelling software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Blender)Experience working in international nuclear projects or abroad
