Systems Engineering Radar P/L Architectural Engineering
Thales Alenia Space – Permanent responsibility – Location: Rome – Level of responsibility required: LR 8. Task: contribute to engineering radar design and development activities within the Radar Instrument Engineering Unit.
Responsibilities
* Define RF Payload and Digital Equipment Section.
* Evaluate radar input requirements and provide analysis needs to support architecture and HW/SW design.
* Trade‑off radar instrument solutions; define architectures and sub‑systems (antenna, front‑end, RF, digital).
* Focus on the digital section of synthetic aperture radars – C&C design, Timing, FDIR, and onboard processing (digital waveform generation, echo filtering, beamforming, data decimation and compression).
* Define subsystem/units requirements and functional decomposition for Digital, RF, and SW sections.
* Participate in design reviews at all levels.
* Maintain requirement traceability and support the Radar System Engineering Manager for RFW/D evaluation.
* Contribute to payload budget definition and maintenance.
* Develop software tools (e.g., MATLAB, Excel) for design and verification.
* Evaluate test results and participate in test campaigns at instrument, assembly, equipment, and unit levels.
* Attend meetings with the Radar Instrument design team, subcontractors, and customers.
* Prepare documents and handouts.
Qualifications
* Master’s degree or PhD in Remote Sensing Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, or Electronics Engineering.
* Background in HW design for RF and digital electronics, simulations, and analysis; antenna and RF design skills valued.
* Knowledge of MATLAB and MS Office.
* English at least intermediate level.
* Teamwork attitude.
